Israel - Iran conflict

Same question; did you read the BBC and CNA articles?

The CNA article was written by Carl Skadian, Deputy Director at the Middle East Institute at NUS: https://mei.nus.edu.sg/members/carl-skadiang/
I don’t know if he is “an Anti-American, DJT obessed fanatic” or not.
I have read his articles in TODAY and Straits Times for years, but you apparently know him better.

PS> He looks fairly slim to me:

Mostly the same people who are paying for a large portion of the defense of your part of the world, against their wishes.

In the past 24 hours Israel has bombed 4 different countries,
Palestine, Lebanon, Syria & Iran.
And yet they still want to be perceived as the victims.

Attack in self defence is perfectly justifiable.

These people should be cleansed of religious dogma perhaps with some kind of serum and hired by the likes of Wharton, Kellogg, Harvard, etc to teach sales and marketing. Ace in convincing youngsters to become jihadists.
Either that or euthanized.

I opened this thread thinking it can’t be another opportunity to bash Trump, but here we go again. A daily dose of Trump antipathy from our prolific Norwegian cut and paster. A bit overboard? Possibly. It is what it is.

A couple of things.

The majority of the free world and more than a couple of Arab nations are elated that Isreal bombed Iran. We are all safer because of it. Iran has increased their rhetoric of wiping Isreal from the map. Everyone knew this was coming.

The only manner, and it wouldn’t matter in the long run, that Trump is anyway responsible for this, is that Isreal was likely optimistic that they would see public support from the United States after these attacks. Unlike the capitulation of the previous administration. I’m not saying they weren’t given the proverbial green light from Trump, he said they were aware but, did not help plan this attack. It wouldn’t have mattered. Isreal would have done it regardless.

Not that long ago people would have seen preventing a radical regime from possessing nuclear weapons as a good thing. They were in violation of the JCPOA from the onset. According to a UN watchdog, they were stockpiling weapons grade uranium.

As sure as Isreal was justified in attacking them, they are not done. Not by a long shot. You should all be thankful they have the stones to do this.

I’m pretty sure many of the TDS sufferers go to bed at night thinking of Trump & I know one on this forum wakes up every morning thinking of DJT because thats always the 1st topic of the 1st post every day. Everything is about Trump all the time for some.

I think Trump is somewhat responsible for the restraint Israel has shown. IMO, Israel knows they can be selective on their targets, doesn’t have to be in a rush & hopefully mitigate collateral damages. The US won’t condemn Israel or support Iran with Trump in office. If Harris or Biden were in the Oval Office, Israel still might of attacked Irans nuclear program but they would had to totally cripple Iran right away because they wouldn’t know if Harris or Biden would have given aide to Iran. Just my hypothetical opinion. We’ve been trying to stop Irans nuclear weapons ambitions for 40 years, I’m glad Israel finally has done it for us. Took them long enough.

They do not indiscriminately attack. They know the collateral damage would be plastered on every news cycle all over the globe. I’m sure there is a element of those making the decisions that civilians deaths are bad however, the former has more weight in this decision.

Any assessment by knowledgeable persons states they didn’t finish the job. Justifiably, more is coming. Isreal started this with the full intention of finishing it.

Ever read or see “On The Beach”? :slightly_frowning_face:

Your post is intended to provoke. The question is are you trying to provoke someone to defend or condemn? If the latter, and you are remotely genuine, of the countries you mentioned, how many attacked Israel first?

I wish Israel well and hope they can kill off enough of Iran’s senior leadership for the Iranian people to get out from under the Mullahs, but I do not want to see the US dragged into another disastrous middle eastern war.

I have travelled around this world and followed the news for a lot of years.
So yes I am aware of how many wars there have been involving Israel and those countries.

I have been in the area for several of the wars in the Middle East, incl. missing being in the Suez canal by 12 hrs. when the canal closed in the 1967 war.

PS> My first memory of trouble in the area was on my very first trip there, in 1959.
Heading up Shatt-al-Arab River to Abadan, as one of two Deckboys assigned to hide behind a bulwark to hoist and lower courtesy flags, as directed from the two pilots from the bridge, as we crossed from the Iran to Irak side of the river.

PS> The Iran-Irak trouble existed already then, with the two sides firing at each other across the river..

Aman to that! Can a political science major or anyone who follows militaries & politics propose a scenario where Israel wins a war with Iran without US military personnel being involved? Yes, definitely. Therefore this is a proxy war with one of our enemies that I support. But only a proxy war for me. No way would I want one of my sons or any US military personnel dying on another battlefield in the middle-east to defend Israel. Israel gots this, to our benefit IMO. Let them do their thing, I support the only democracy in the Middle-east against our foe who has chanted the “death to America” since their inception.

Without comments or quotes to avoid misunderstanding:

Thank you for telling me what I intend.
Without your kind help I would not have clue.

Sorry, but the question of whether this was THE BEGINNING of more widespread attacks was a bit of a klong.

  1. The Beirut bombings, 1983. Hezbollah’s backer and funder, Iran.

  2. Khobar Towers bombing- Iran, again.

  3. TWO assasination attempts of foreign diplomats on US Soil- Quds force, Iran.

  4. Over 2 dozen confirmed KH-led terror attacks on US soldiers in Iraq. Guess who sponsors KH?

  5. over 100 attacks on Israel claimed by Hezbollah, Hamas and Palestine Islamic Jihad. Funded and trained by Iran.
6). Houthi attacks 2105-present. Guess who arms, supplies and trains them?

  6. the 2019 AND 2020 attacks on the US embassy in Iraq… paid for by Iran, using KH terrorists trained…by Iran.

Al-Qaeda and the Taliban both receive funding from Iran but at various points the US did too for some of the actors involved, but realistically there are Iran-funded attacks by those trashbags too.

Anyhow, lets see how many posts it takes for the boomers to get all soggy and hard to light for having their 2-minutes’ hate for Trump interrupted.

Isreal has no intention of winning anything. They’re not doing an invasion. They’re not going to land troops on the ground. They don’t need to. All they have to do is bomb their military sites and kill their leadership. Something they have proven to be quite good at.

I’ll have you know that we are some “pre-boomers” here as well.
Don’t writ us off, we can still stand our ground.

The generation before the (Baby-) Boomers, born between 1928 and 1945, is known as the “Silent Generation” (sometimes also the “Traditionalist Generation”).

However, not all members of the Silent Generation are truly silent.
