Is Harvey Gulf Marine becoming a steamroller in the GoM?
Do you know this man and his family is worth at least $500million bucks? Just another of the South Louisiana mafia bosses on the bayoo! No wonder the Norwegians hold their nose in disgust whenever they arrive at the NoLA airport!
It has nothing to do with that filthy humid swamp city’s natural stench?

When you’re driving down I10 that stench starts in west Mississippi and doesn’t stop til halfway down the Texas coast.

I am sorry to say it but Shane Guidry is THE REASON a union would be a good thing in the GoM for the mariners.

Treat the mariners well and fairly then no representation is needed but treat them as chattel and give me collective bargaining! Short of a union, the only way HGM will ever change is if everyone there left at once leaving the boats tied up to docks and millions being lost every day!

Not having AEDs on the tugs is such a small investment for the company to make and shows caring for their welfare. If a man dies from a heart attack aboard one of those boats I hope a lawyer manages to sue the living shit out of Shane Guidry for failure to provide a safe workplace!

Besides AEDs what’s wrong with them. I’m looking at them on the supply boat side
Like the damn Norwegians are any better in this industry! They’re always out to screw us or someone else… After some of the things I heard I wish I could get my hands on a copy of the meeting minutes from STCW '10 :p
Ok, this you have to explain further. Who exactly are we trying to screw over?
That’s all fine and good but the USCG Authorization Act for FY 2010 authorized the Coast Guard to develop and implement rules for OSVs over 6000grt and to create a license class for mariners to operate those new class of vessel. Now, I would be stunned beyond words if the CG took a stand that super large OSV’s were in fact ships and demanded that they be manned as ships. OMSA WOULD HOWL AT THE MERE THOUGHT THAT UL MARINERS WILL BE REQUIRED AND MANNING WITH THE SCALE OF A UL SHIP! Of course, that is what I hope for but I ain’t holding my breath.
The companies are not worried any longer about the unlimited license since it is no longer required to take the courses. That was their point of argument that no longer exist.

The worst thing about HGM is the office. They have no mariners that work in there office and they don’t want any.The office hates there boat crew and will railroad you 1 chance they get. There is no shore side help .Healthcare is bad it use to be free know you have to pay 300 a month and 1500 deductible dental is worst .No training none. if you work at HGM you better have MOPs .401 k if Shane want he puts money in if he don’t he don’t .I don’t think Shane is da bad guy it’s all the guys below him .Pay is ok not at the top are bottom.they will hire and kid make him you boss and he gets mad will you tell him about the boat cause he don’t understand what you talking about. The company is growing but it’s not place for mariners I know this cause I work at HGM but it may not be for a long period of time if change does not come .Mariner Hell Hold

The office sucks at HGM I know cause I work there

So what’s the word on hiring at Harvey because of this deal? I’m sure the boats the acquired from GOL are coming with most if not all of the crew, but I would think there would be some guys from GOL that didn’t make the switch.

No training? I was told they pay for classes…

Since I’m not an academy grad, I don’t feel entitled to be the grammar police, but . . .

Yeah, that hurt my brain!
The office sucks at HGM I know cause I work there
WOW, No wonder “You think” the office “SUCKS” or you think it sucks. Have you looked at your grammar in that initial statement? No wonder you think it Sucks, If I worked with someone like you, that my friend would really suck…And yes I work for them too,
For the most part, I have no complaints with my job, do your job as you are supposed to, follow the rules and there are no problems.

As with every company there is BS, the more money you make or earn, the more BS comes with it… so if you dont like it, get out.

Cant complain about the pay… We will be getting a raise on the 15th of May.

$15 for AB’s and QMED’s

$50 for Engineers / Wheel House

Another raise on 9/15 and 12/31 ( $15 for deck / QMED, $25 for Engineers / Wheel House)

This upcoming raise was to be $25 for Engineers / Wheelhouse, but he changed it to $50… Maybe he will do the same with the rest of our raises?

By the end of the year, on 12/31 we are looking at AB’s = @425, QMED’s= $560, Chief Engineer (6000 ITC) $925, Captains ( 6000 ITC) $925

For that much money, I can take the BS… LOL

So for you my friend, again I will say, if you dont like it, maybe you should be… " sailonbigwaves" out of here…

Good luck and “Happy Sailing”
No training? I was told they pay for classes…
They do pay for classes, but have just started something new where you need to work for the company for the next year, or they will take the cose of the classes out of your pay.
I think to many people have taken the classes and left, is my only guess. So they want you to work for them a year following the classes, or they will charge you for them.

That seems reasonable. Other companies do that too.

Apparently Harvey doesn’t pay for writing classes.

HGM hired him grammar errors and all. He is entitled to his opinion. Might be a damn fine worker that just can’t form a grammatically correct sentence.
I have had many a fine man work for me that couldn’t write a decent report and I have had some fine report writers who weren’t worth a lifejacket.

Being from Alabama I struggle with all that stuff on a daily basis. Damn you brown party liquor!
