Doesn’t seem like too many people from Harvey post on here regularly and let it be known that they work there. I can only think of about three and one just quit. I’m very curious also.
I’m a mate at HGIM. I don’t have any major complaints. The company is going through some growing pains, but nothing too terrible. Play by the rules and its not a bad place to be.
From talking to the GOL guys, officer pay is about $25 a day behind. Raises are consistent here, so it’s only a matter of time. From talking to friends at Hornbeck and Chouest, pay is equal, in a few weeks it will be above Hornbeck (if hos doesn’t come out with anything)…at least for mates. We know when we’re getting raises and have been nicely surprised by a couple unexpected ones.
They’re looking for masters, mates, and licensed engs. Fyi.
I’m a GOL guy making the move it looks like. My question is about the benefits. What do they match on 401k? What’s the cost for family medical and dental? Deductibles? Any info is appreciated as we have no idea when Harvey’s HSE guys are gonna pop up to explain.
And since the end is coming. Masters here make $850, Mates $800. And most of us work 14/14.
Maybe Harvey will be more open to equal time since they are getting so many equal time guys now

And C&G wonders why they lost so many guys to GOL…
Is this by choice? Or did they just acquire you with the boats?
CaptB - there is some general info on Harvey’s web site.
At least it is a starting point.
That’s all fine and good but the USCG Authorization Act for FY 2010 authorized the Coast Guard to develop and implement rules for OSVs over 6000grt and to create a license class for mariners to operate those new class of vessel. Now, I would be stunned beyond words if the CG took a stand that super large OSV’s were in fact ships and demanded that they be manned as ships. OMSA WOULD HOWL AT THE MERE THOUGHT THAT UL MARINERS WILL BE REQUIRED AND MANNING WITH THE SCALE OF A UL SHIP! Of course, that is what I hope for but I ain’t holding my breath.
They need Unl. Masters?
They need Unl. Masters?
not if they are inspected as a subchapter L OSV and under 6000grt…

That’s generally how it works. Why would GOL need all those guys with no boats to put them on, and HGIM has a whole lot of boats that need crews so go through trouble of laying them all off only to have them be hired by HGIM?
It wasn’t by choice on my end. Nothing against Harvey but I’ve got 10+ years with GOL with no complaints except for selling. They are keeping 3 DP1 OSVs, but don’t know if staying would be a good career choice as I’ve heard the only reason they didn’t sell those was that Harvey didn’t want them.
I’m loyal to Joel, but will do what’s best for my family.

Is Harvey hiring guys from outside the oil patch that only have DP Basic?

Are they willing to hire Unl. Master, also. ?
Only one way to find out…
If you have DP and OSV experience, I don’t see why not. All I know is the positions they are looking for. Give them a call and find out.
They “SAFETY” you out the wazoo, when it is convenient for them, they make promises they do not follow through on. Give you a pay raise and they take away somewhere else. Here is a question for you, why have AED’s on their big boats but not on their smaller tugs? Answer: regs do not require them. So if they care so damn much about safety does it really matter to you if you have a heart attack on a SOLAS vessel or a 200 ton tug? I could go on.

and everybody can thank this swamp bubba jackass for that mentality…
Do you know this man and his family is worth at least $500million bucks? Just another of the South Louisiana mafia bosses on the bayoo! No wonder the Norwegians hold their nose in disgust whenever they arrive at the NoLA airport!

Like the damn Norwegians are any better in this industry! They’re always out to screw us or someone else… After some of the things I heard I wish I could get my hands on a copy of the meeting minutes from STCW '10
