Whaledimir made big headlines around the world and became a celebrity as he started to swim from fjord to fjord south along the coast of Norway. He even made it to the west coast of Sweden before he returned back to the southwest coast of Norway and the Stavanger area where he died on August 31. It is not known what caused the death of the whale. A necropsy will be conducted.

Looks like Hvaldimir MAY have been shot:

OneWhale and Noah believe the celebrity whale Hvaldimir has been shot and killed. They have now reported the matter to the police.
Hvaldimir had several holes in his body when he was found.

• Noah and OneWhale have chosen to report Hvaldimir’s death, based on strong indications that the death may have been caused by damage from humans, inflicted with intention, they write in a press release.
• We have received the report. Hvaldimir is currently undergoing an autopsy. It takes a while. Then we will assess what we do next, says police investigation manager Arne Gilje to NRK.

Sebastian Strand in Marine Mind believes that speculation should be expected.

• The Veterinary Institute has not yet presented the results of its investigations. When we found Hvaldimir on Saturday, it was not possible to immediately determine the cause of death, and therefore it is important to wait with speculation until the institute has completed its work, they write in a press release.

Visible wounds

As pictures in the media have shown, the whale had some visible wounds on the outside of the skin. These are completely superficial. One of the wounds is somewhat deeper, but these injuries have not affected vital organs or are of a fatal nature.
The preliminary autopsy report does not conclude what caused these injuries.

A 35 cm long and approximately 3 cm wide stick was found stuck inside Hvaldimir’s mouth.

• The autopsy showed that his stomach was empty. In addition, most organs had broken down. There is nothing in the investigations that have been carried out to establish that it is human activity that has directly led to Hvaldimir’s death, adds Preede Revheim.
