Hurricane Isaias

The water got up to the top of the bulkhead but thankfully receding now. The long branches from a tall tree next to the house stopped hammering on the roof when the wind subsided and I don’t see any damage so everything is back to what passes for normal.

Major flood here for awhile, too deep to drive. The bilge pump auto mode failed on the Whaler and I had to pump the thing out by hand, it was full! The eye went within about a mile of my house right AFTER I pumped the Whaler too, if I had waited an hour I could have done it with no wind and rain.
Sailboat is fine, all canvas and sails are stuffed in my car.

Up one of the rivers?

We went up the Sassafras River, durn thing went right over the top of us. No eye here inland. Max wind was 44 and was in the 30s for maybe an hour and a half. Our Bruce on 120’ of 3/8” is probably buried deep in the mud now.

Portland paper is reporting about 91,000 homes in Maine without power. Most not along the coast but in the three counties just inland from the coast.

Wind started here from SE at about 7 p.m. with one good gust and some rain. No small tree branches in the yard so couldn’t have been much.

Sunny and clear this a.m.

I lost power for a day (mid-Atlantic state). Consider myself lucky. TODAY, we had a ferocious summer thunderstorm that sent my neighbor’s trash cans and trash down the street with a torrent of water. There is a line of trash on my lawn where the flood deposited it.

We went thru the C&D canal yesterday - two places just West of the Summit Marina it sure looked to me like tornadoes crossed from SE to NW - shredded and broken trees, etc. One seemed to have crossed right at the natural gas pipeline crossing, while the other was closer to the marina - a narrow path of destruction on the South bank, then a 300-yard wide swath going westward along the North bank, eventually disappearing over the hill.
Fortunately, it looks like it spared the marina and the pipeline and bridges that cross there. Power outages all around, the RR bridge was running their generator and the folks in Delaware City said their power had just come back on earlier that day (8/6).

For a “little” storm this one sure packed a punch in Western NE. No power until Tuesday they’re telling us.

This turns out not to have been right, no small branches in the yard but after I posted this I ventured out a little further from the house, there were a lot of small branches down further from the house and out in the road, so must have been 25 or 30 kts here.
