Whoa, I had no idea waterspouts could be so destructive. I didn’t even know they can come from regular clouds and not just storms. That’s wild.
But like, how dangerous are they really? Ever had a close call with one out at sea?
I’ve never been hit on a commercial ship but I had one hit me while racing a 19’ sailboat. Extremely violent! It twisted our mast, snapped the fore and one side stay and the mast came crashing down while we were using body weight to try to keep us upright. Not a fun day and I’ve still got a scar from 18 stitches on my shin as a reminder .
Had one come ashore near our place, ripped the roof off a house.
