Hornbeck and ECO physical requirements

Our government needs to step in and put a stop to these ridiculous physicals.

The uscg is going to start issuing two year medical certificates. Like the rest of the world. There shouldn’t be any company physicals. Like the rest of the world
HOS makes you do a PFT during the physical. You have 10 attempts to do three passing tests.
Which involves what ? what do you have to do in this physical? thanks

Very similar to a breathalyzer on a field sobriety test…something I know Nothing about???

thanks, basically , you have to be able to breath well, and they are most likely “catching” smokers.
This is in our proposed ruilemaking for the 2010 STCW. (The 2010 amendments require the medical certificate to be issued by flag states (every two years).
can USCG enforce it?

I believe a company can have more stringent requirements as long as they don’t single out say, older folks, as long as they are otherwise capable of doing the job. And…that the physical standards are required by the job. I am over 50 and I must have a physical every 2 years which includes a PFT and audio gram. Also EKG. I work for the gov and that’s pretty standard. Our body fat standards are non-existent, however (lol). Lots of big folks here.

You better start practicing running up and down your stairs for 3 minutes and climbing a 30 foot ladder, plus a lot of bending and lifting if you want to pass the HOS physics

cajaya@rocketmail.com

email me on my private email if this happened to you…including the part about being told to call the doctor’s office and they don’t know, the part that was omitted from my post

Refresh my memory here … You took a pre employment physical and failed because of poor grip strength, right? Or was that someone else.

not trying to be difficult here but I don’t owe you any explanation

if you want you can go back and read the original post

and if you were gay, you would be saying…its okay to single out every one else…except for gay folks

I’m in my 20’s and I’m fit, alert and more intelligent than average. Do I think I perform better than a 50 something year old with memory problems, a beer belly and lethargia…yes I do…1000X better. I am an engineer, so my job requires metal ability as well. They should start doing IQ tests if you ask me but I don’t go around saying company’s shouldn’t hire old folks because they are slow, have had sufficient brain cell loss which is a natural process with age as well as lower energy levels and increased chance of accidents. I have worked on ships for 7 years and have never been hurt
and have outworked and out brained many men. Actually I’m not even sure that what the doctor verbally told me was acurate because I tested myself…I can deadlift 180 and I haven’t even been working out

OK then let me make it simple for you. The physical requirements for the job are spelled out in the ISM manual. This manual is the bible. You aren’t being discriminated against if you cannot meet the physical requirements that every other prospective hire must meet.

if I ever knew what the requirements were that would be great but they didnt tell me. only that I didnt pass but not why, and I have had emails from several other women who have told me the same thing happend to them, with no explanation as to what the requirements are but i havent gotten any emails lately which is why im telling them to email me at my personal email address

ok then let me make if simple for you, they didn’t tell me what the requirements are and refused to tell me…only that i didn’t meet them. Im not talking about eco

please scan this elusive ISM manual and put it online for the rest of the world to see because apparently it is TOP SECRET

With an attitude like that you will go far in the marine world!

Yes just eat crap in the dark, don’t ask why, and get used to it. That’s just how it is. “Mushroom” treatment as some say.

Mr. Attitude… let me ask you something. What kind of company would refuse to disclose the physical requirements to an applicant?

I didn’t have a problem with passing the HOS physical…

I was laughing for like 5 minutes straight…didn’t know what it was but looked it up in urban dictionary…I guess that must be a common thing in the GOM
