Texas-based Delta Subsea has released a walk-through video of the latest vessel to enter its fleet. The Olympic Delta is 94 meter (308 feet) multipurpose subsea support and construction vessel named on July 4 at a ceremony in Fosnavåg, organized by Norway’s Kleven Verft and Olympic Shipping.

The Olympic Delta has a diesel electric propulsion system with azimuth thrusters. It is designed for low fuel consumption and has excellent sea and station keeping performance. The vessel also has a NOx cleaning system capable of reducing emissions of NOx up to 95 percent.

Olympic Delta is equipped with an active heave compensated 80t subsea crane and has wire capacity of 2500 meters. The work deck is 900 square meters, and the vessel will be equipped with two ROVs. It has accommodation for 80 people.

Olympic Shipping and Delta Subsea will jointly market the MT 6021 MKII-design vessel to clients for subsea and inspection, maintenance and repair work in both the oil and gas and renewables sectors.

I added this comment there at Maritime Executive

this vessel should not have foreign mariners operating it but Americans per 33CFRpart141

this is just more BS and I wished Maritime Executive would call these violations out in a hard hitting article or op/ed

maritime exec is a decent publication IMHO, don’t follow it too closely but they usually call a spade a spade.

I used to think so too, but a lot of Mar Ex’s recent ‘coverage’ has just been reprinted corporate press releases or lobbyists proving their worth to their owners.

I am still not going to condemn Tony Munoz, he does write op/ed in MarEx which is intelligent and thoughtful. Further, he is squarely on the side of an American maritime industry even though MarEx features too many foreign executives imo.

I do believe it is time for me to write to him again on this matter which today, in the 2015 world of drastic reductions in the US citizen offshore industry workforce, it extremely important for US!

I also want to add that for whatever flaws of MarEx, it is at least written at a college level as opposed to certain other maritime industry periodicals which don’t even reach fifth grade english composition…cough, cough!

I haven’t seen any information that this vessel is going to work in US waters?

good point here but Delta Subsea is a Houston based company so the automatic assumption is that they market their services primarily in the GoM. I could be wrong but I doubt it.

does anyone know about this Delta? Where did their key people come from? DMT? Superior? Any one of the other failed subsea players?

Did anyone else take note of the fact that NO one spoke? You would have thought at least the Captain would have said something. Maybe they did not want to make a show of WHO is crewing the vessel.

http://www.olympic.no/company/media/updates/frame-agreement-with-delta-subsea/

“The agreement is for supply of ROV services onboard Olympic Shipping newbuild MT 6021 mk2 under construction at Kleven with delivery in July 2015. Under the agreement Delta Subsea will supply two state of the art ROV of Schilling Robotics HD 150 work class type, and the necessary crew for operations. Olympic and Delta will jointly market the vessel to clients for Subsea, IMR and renewable markets or similar work.”

The statement says it is managed by Olympic and they hire Delta to provide the ROV and ROV crew. I don’t see anywhere that the vessel is Delta’s.
So, a Norwegian company and a US company teaming up. Why is that a bad thing?
