OS,
We can hit Seamar for the knives and I probably have a grudens coat you can take North with you - I will bring it Sat. While lots of folks like Xtra Tuffs I like another product they make called Muck boots…See ya Saturday.
MTSKIER

Looks like Mtskier has you taken care off. Seamar is close by. Grunden knife belt w/ couple of the white vickies. extra tuffs-NO steel toe insulated. Light weight rain gear. Grundens makes a great pants w/ velcro the bottom. The Bering will not be as cold right now but once you get back look up campmor.com for your fleece pants tops and such. I assume they will hook you up w/ gloves but if not choose the orange or blue atlas(I prefer the blue w/ wool liners). sweatpants(no jeans esp on deck) and plenty of tshirts-skip the sunglasses…you’ll hardly see the sun-LOL! 15 years up there crabbing never saw a need for them.

Congrats and Good Luck! Have fun at Dutch Harbor if you get a chance.

Get a Grunden’s southwestern hat…I know they look stupid but you’ll thank me later.

I always went for the light weight gear you’ll see grundens there @ Seamar.

MTSKIER-trust me he’ll need extra tuffs-insulated w/ 'bama boots(blue booties that absorb the sweat).

OS gimme a shout when you get back and I’ll get your winter collection going cheap. remember to go to LFS in Dutch if get a chance and grab a Bering Sea Fisherman Second To None sweatshirt or tshirt.

OS-I assume the schedule would be 16 on and 8 off. Just remember your 1st trip is the worst and it will get better.
Capt A - You forgot to mention some good water soluble lubricant. That will make “things go easier”.

Good luck Anthony - Safe Sailing…
Who need lube on the slime line?

Thanks again guys- you may not realize it- but you’re a BIG help to the newbies- keep it up:)

Good Luck, that’s where I started in June of 84’. I only took my Helly Hansens and some rubber knee boots. The gear wasn’t as high tech back then. Gloves were the orange day-glo water proof. I survived without any long underwear. It was summer for Pete’s sake. You’ll do fine. It’s not Deadliest Catch, crabbing in the winter. Plus your on a nice new vessel. I was on a piece of old moldy sh!t army salvage vessel built in the 40’s and converted. Most importantly, have fun.:stuck_out_tongue:

depending on the company the ships store will have all the safety and cold weather gear you will need and usually at a reduced price
