I have a great background, honorable discharge, went through maritime training for NCL cruiseline at Paul hall center and I apply and get rejected… does anyone know anyone who can help me… I really have a passion to be a merchant mariner, please I have nothing left… why would they reject me… is there another school out there that doesnt cost lots of money or over three years to be a seafarer … please help

Hello, did they give you a reason?

I know they were full and not taking new apps for over a year…

I also know another person who did all the same things and also got a rejection letter for his troubles, to say the least, he was NOT happy either. If you took the reading/math test you might have failed that (I know guys that have failed the math test), or maybe they saw something else, but really I don’t know.

Call the school and ask to speak with admin and then ask to speak with somebody high up (I won’t broadcast names in open on a forum).

PM me for more info/help.

If your a Veteran, how about using your education benefits. I recall that PMI and MITAGS are VA approved, there are others. BTW, doesn’t SIU have a special induction and training program for Vets?
Check this out also: http://www.benefits.va.gov/VOW/

pmi , mitags ?? never heard of them… Unless the lady of adm lied to me she said it was shut down… I actually still need to talk to someone from the VA… do u know of any other schools

Thx for the website and for responding

What state do you live in? I went to SIU school and my personal opinion is that the whole thing is a scam. There are a lot of other schools and ways to get training. There are programs through community colleges too.

If you went through NCL you have your Z card right? Maybe you should just apply through companies for OS or wiper positions. Other parts of this site list hundreds of companies.

If you apply NOAA through usajobs.gov you get preference for being a veteran.

I just took the reading/math in brklyn. Found the math hard cause I haven’t done high school algebra in 15 yrs. wrote a good essay had three letters of rec from ppl in the industry but I can bet the math is going to disqualify me. When I was at the hall I noticed a large number of ppl checking a screen for possible jobs. They seemed to be from all over and most likely not grads of ua program. Can anyone w TWIC and MMC wait at the hall for an OS job or entry level. What other avenues are there. Must go to sea!!!
