Looks like a solid design to me. Question is, are they gonna preventatively redesign/rebuild other dilapidated bridges in the Chesapeake region, or wait for them to get knocked down too? Can’t sneeze on many fender systems without causing major damage in their current state.

The older of the two Bay Bridges is approaching the point where it will fall down all by itself, I think its designed lifespan is about 20 some years out. Nothing is being done.
Also it will be a total miracle if the Key Bridge is replaced, federal funding either is removed or will be.

That’s the case for many. Elizabeth and James river are full of sad bridges. Been a while since I’ve been up the York, but that’s likely the case too.
That’s not even talking about the pier barriers. While many of them are structurally sound, they weren’t built to withstand the impact of vessels as large as the Dali. Ships continue to get bigger. It doesn’t take much to have another key bridge type incident in the Chesapeake or Delaware areas.
