Former addict, 8 old misdemeanors. Is it even worth trying to join this field?

I was an opiate addict in my 20s. Got arrested many times. Everything from caught with marijuana, selling marijauan, caught with pills, credit card fraud & forgery, public intoxication. I was mostly homeless with no car so nothing to get a DUI in at least. No felonies at all at least but tons of misdemeanors. I’m clean for 10 years now and havent been in any more trouble since then. I got my TWIC already and working on seeing if theyd even give me an MMC. Just thought id look for opinions on if its even worth continuing or if my past record would hold me back from doing much in this field beyond entry level, if i could even get that. I think theres probably countries i might not be able to enter with my record. Ive held stable employment in warehouses and truck driving for a decade now if that helps any.

You’ll fit right it!

If you can get a TWIC, I’m pretty sure you’ll clear any reviews the USCG will conduct.

Get to work.

Just point out on your app that all infractions are over ten years and were “youthful indiscretions that in no way represent your current lifestyle”

You can go jump on inland pushboats tommorow, no MMC needed. You can get some experience and get paid while you go through the application process for your MMC.

I honestly don’t know.
I hope it works out for you. The truth should be accepted if you have turned your life around. You made your mistakes and paid your debt to society.
Good luck and don’t give up
