Foreign lic. US Citizen

Good day,

Im a U.S. Citizen born in the U.S. grew up in the P.I. I have been sailing as a Marine Engineer for the past 13 yrs with a Foreign Lic. Some oppurtunities have come up and planning to move back state side.
Can my sea service be used to apply for a USCG lic? Or do I start from the beginning. I dont really mind if I need to start from the begining, I just want to know where to start off in terms of documents and trainings needed.
Any suggestions on how to start will help.
Tia

Yes your sea service will count. However you will have to take any exams, courses, assessments, etc over again. But your service should count towards any seatime requirements as applicable.

As @LI_Domer said, yes it will count to get the national version of the license you currently have but you will have to redo all the STCW assessments.

Thanks, for your input. Where can I find the requirements needed? Website?
What STCW trainings are required? It may be different from P.I. lic.
Im planning to maybe work local on tugboats or inter U.S. voyages..Ive been sailing on international trade long enough times have changed ang continue to change.

Both officer in charge of an engineering watch AND second engineer/Chuef enginerr. Requirements for OICEW: NVIC 17-14
Chief Engineer: NVIC 15-14

STCW is not required on vessels under 200 GRT/500 GT on domestic voyages. That covers most tugs. So for license only you would need basic and advanced firefighting, First Aid and CPR, and complete the examination for Chief Engineer., The courses are mostly for STCW as are the competency assessments.

Additionally, licenses may by preferred by most companies, but tugs under 200 GRT do Not require licensed engineers.

If you are an engineer that can actually fix stuff, and get a

TWIC card and an
MMC endorsed OS, wiper,

you will be very employable on US tugs.

Thank you Sir! Ive seen your input on other posts and I appreciate your input..Im actually on a long voyage from indonesia to rotterdam at the moment. Im a CE,but im comfortable on just inter US routes.

Yes Sir,im actually a CE and yes as an engineer on foreign flag vessels i can get stuff done with very little hehehehe …thanks for your input

Will my age be a problem? Im already 39 y.o.

39 is certainly not an issue.
