At last , better late than never?

SNP has 4 new diesel-electric ferries under construction at Cemre Shipyard in Turkey:

PS> All 4 are due for delivery this year.

Any news on this ferry? She appears to be drifting or on a very, very, long anchor rode

Waiting and see how the weather will be on her way to the Bermudas?
Probably strong NW winds and high seas - but an unstable forecast.

She appears to be underway again now:

PS> Still Hamilton, Bermuda as destination port.

After four days at sea from Kings Wharf (Bermuda), the “Northumberland Ferry”, just now, enters the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Her destination is the port of Pictou in Nova Scotia.
Atlantic crossing from Norway (via Cape Verde and Bahama islands) done…

She was off Cape Brenton 14 hrs. ago (no later position):

She apparently need icebreaker assistance to get into port in Pictou:

Icebreaker JEAN GOODWILL (ex Balder Viking) is operating in the area:

She has arrived safely at her destination:

The Jean Goodwill has done her job and is heading off to her next assignment:

Nearly 8000 miles at 10 knots; beginning in moderate temperatures but mainly in tropical ones…
…and then waiting for the icebreaker to clean the entry into the destination port!

Time flies when you are having fun:

PS> Before anybody ask;The electric power comes from 100% renewable hydro and wind power from the grid.
Cost is NOT affected by the occasional high power prices in SW Norway,
(When the wind doesn’t blow in the North Sea, UK and Continental Europe)

They could buy this, it would be much cheaper.

That is the Condor Liberation and she is going along with the freight ship Commodore Goodwill.
This ‘restructuring’ means that about 32 Deck Engine and ET officers will be looking for work next month.
Looking forward to the Teams call next week.

Why are the present owner selling this wonder of modern technology?
Could it be that the 3 x MTU engines doesn’t meet their environmental requirement?
Or could her sea keeping capabilities have something to do with it?

Our Government is looking for replacement ferries but I don’t think this will make the cut. They tried once with this concept running only in summer and there were many days of cancelled sailings. The ferry was quickly known as “the vomit comet.”

Nope, the engines are fine; they should be, just had £5M spent on them.
Sea keeping no worse than other high speed ferries really, i.e. crap.

No, what has happened is that due to circumstances beyond someones control the company has lost 65% of its business so going from 5 ships down to 3 and one of those is chartered out.
On top of the 30+ officers waiting for the Sword of Damocles to drop there are 60+ crew and 30+ office wallahs .
So many thanks to the clowns that organised that clusterfuck.

Yes but the emission standard the Swedes are looking for is a bit over and above what the MTUs installed in this one can offer. (even after spending £5 mill.)

PS> There were probably a good reason why this vessel was laid up for 4 years after completion (2010-15) before they found any takers.
Her reputation for excessive rolling and pitching, even in 2 m seas has been a (not so) well kept secret.

Are you management?
Your take on my post is environmental and poor weather handling; nothing about the 90 odd seafarers and 30 others about to lose their jobs.
Thank you for your support!
Double blow for some of the crew as they are Ukrainian so have lost their homes and now their jobs.

No I’m not, I’m a retiree with 60 years of varied international maritime background.
I answered your posts with facts about why the Condor Liberation is NOT a candidate for Gotlandsbolaget and why she may not be easy to sell.

I’m sorry for those that will loose their jobs when the ship is taken out of service, but that is life in the fast lane.
If they are Brits I’m sure they will not starve and will be able to find other work, either at sea or ashore.
The Labour Government is on your side:

Almost one year ago HAV Design announced that they had signed a contract with Fjord 1 for design and development of 4 autonomous ferries to be built at Terzan Shipyard:

Now names have been announced for these four ferries:
MF Skagastøl, MF Fanaraaken, MF Ringstind and MF Storebjørn🌟.
These are the names of mountain peaks, which symbolize that we aim to reach the top, with a good view and overview when you reach your goal, which is a good analogy for world’s first ferry connection served by autonomous ferries-
.
👉With these names, Fjord1 is ready to take a big step into the future with autonomous passenger ferry operations on Lavik-Oppedal! when we take over operations in 2026!
