I am looking for a job as a 2nd assistant engineer or 3rd assistant engineer on a drill ship, were I can work one month on and one month off. I have been sailing mostly on container vessels and oil tankers. I want to pursue my career further in the oil and gas/ offshore industry.
Ok…
it is most simple if you follow these seven easy steps…
step one: go to websites of drilling companies
step two: find job openings
step three: apply online for open positions
step four: await being contacted by company
step five: get interviewed
step six: get hired and take pre employment pysical and drugscreen
step seven: go to work on ship
you agree it is most simple…no?
.
Listen to the gentleman, he only speaks the truth.
Maybe not so simple…did he graduate from Kings Point recently?
No I have been sailing for about 10 years
Any heads up on which company I should apply to.
He wouldn’t be looking for a 2nds job as a recent grad. I guess comprehension is a gift not given to all.
Why not all of them? Check rigzone.com maybe. Drilling companies aren’t like OSV companies…little need for door knocking from what I understand.

Refer back to my earlier post and insert the following steps at the beginning:
Step one: type www.google.com into the address line of your web browser
step two: click enter
step three: enter the search words “offshore drilling contractors”
step four: click enter
step five: click on the links for each company you find listed
step six: look for “careers” or “employment” or “positions available” or “jobs” or “openings” or anything else that sounds like those words
step seven: look for “assitant engineer” or “engine room operator” or “watch engineer” or “licensed engineer” or anything else that sounds like those words
Are you an academy grad? Did they not teach you how to use the internet where you went? Didn’t they also teach you there not to ask stupid questions and instead use your brain to figure things out all on your own?
sheesh…where do they get these guys anyway?

It was a jab at the buffoon son…poking him with a sharp stick so to speak.
btw, I’d bet he is a KP’er.
Thanks for the heads up guys!
i saw it for exactly what it was. I thought it deserved pointing out that he was doing exactly the same thing as the OP whom he was trying to slur as a KPer.
GCaptain is definitely not a KP friendly place to hang out and I think some of the sport is played simply to impress the old timers like yourself and that is their method to try and be “one of the good guys”. Just a gut feeling.
I accept that I am from a place that people love to “hate” and I accept the fact that outing myself as a KPer doesn’t get me any bonus points around here. That’s fine, I have a thick skin so I can deal with it. This is not an industry for the thin-skinned anyway. I’m not here to change anyone’s mind about KP because that just isn’t going to happen. The only ones whose minds I can affect are my shipmates. Neither am I a hawsepiper hater, hell I’m not even a c.captain hater. I’d buy you a beer in a heartbeat because 1) you are a fellow seaman and 2) you definitely keep GCaptain interesting.
My only hope is that some of the young minds here who have never met or sailed with a KPer form their own opinions AFTER the fact and don’t hold any preconceived notions. That’s not fair to any individual. I saw a kid run off a boat because he could do nothing right in the eyes of everyone else and that was just because he had been bad mouthed before he got there.
Relax gang it was a joke. With all the recent talk about wether KP is a boondoggle it was said in jest. I would like to go back in time and give myself a swift kick in the ass. With the crystal clear vision that hindsight provides I should have listened to my father. He wanted me to go to KP and offered to pay for a state academy. I have only gotten marginally smarter as the years have gone on.

Thank you brother mariner. You are kind in your words and I would truly enjoy hoisting a pint with you to swap seastories and other lies
cheers!
