Which PLB? Those AIS beacons are looking kind of tempting… Love all 3 of my M72’s, sinkers but great battery power. Maybe a Pam Anderson blowup doll, she’ll keep you up, good handholds and she’l probably get rescuers attention pretty quick… Shurefire w/strobe always in pocket @ night on deck…
I have a joke book and a remote controlled fart machine in my ditch bag. Crew morale is important part of marine survival.
A “grab bag” is a bag located in each cabin, and for each person, that contains an escape hood, gloves, whistle, and flash light. This is also a question on OVID audits.
I like the acr rescuelink best but the small mcmurdo and Kannad units are ok too.
I too like the concept of the AIS sart but I was given one to test and… Well I was standing 1/2nm from the local USCG base and they didn’t pick it up (I don’t think it was the units fault either)… So I’m not going to use it as my primary unit until the USCG get’s squared away and I can be sure the signal is received.
Freaking Yankees and all their safety mumbojumobo nonsense.
Hell in the GOM if you have ATT the CG is just a phone call away.
I do feel sorry for the 100 ton guys who have still have chum baskets on their boats. The CG really needs to step up and get rid of them.
Also anything lost that’s not used for work, IE all your personal stuff, is covered under your home owners policy.
You ain’t just woofing about AT&T in Virginia! I switched from Verizon to AT&T because I’m going on a six month hitch down in the Gulf. Everybody says it’s the thing to have, but if it doesn’t work any better down there that it does up here a person would be better of with two tin cans and a good, tight string.
Chum bags…kind of like that plastic net they put around turkeys. Let’s them see whats for supper.

Verizon works just fine for me in Va and the GoM. Why would you want to ring up a $1.99+ per minute phone bill while off shore? I mean it’s cool to have your phone work while you’re offshore… but it’s way to expensive!
