Defunding Food for Peace Act (P.L. 480)

Yet another blow to the US maritime industry.

I think it is safe to say that it is so much easier for cash funds to disappear in the hands of foreign gov’t entities than actual food cargo. While the percentage of food shipped on US flag ships is very small, it still affects quite a few companies bottom line, ships and the jobs they provide to our industry, both ashore and afloat. I’m also quite surprised by this move in regards to ADM, Conagra and Monsanto, to name a few. With their huge lobby, I wonder why they would allow this to happen. They will get hit a lot harder by this.

Hurry up and get on a tugboat while you still can! Everything else is going down by the head and I don’t think the R.M.S. Carpathia is anywhere in sight!
