Compared to the schedules that our predecessors worked I’ll take 28/14 any day. Could you imagine being gone for years at a time sailing on a wooden ship with no modern amenities. Sometimes it amazes me how spoiled us sailors have become. We used to be a tough and respected profession.
I posted this thread concerning equal time for DECK OFFICERS. You replied ‘Last few posts cover this topic’ referring to the THREAD. “Value of pounding pavement to get in with a OSV company” Witch was posted concerning engineer hitches. Nothing to do with deck. Read my thread title
Read my reply to your reply. Again even time is even time regardless of position if the company offers it. No company says only engineers can work even time and mates have to work 28/14. Use some common fucking sense. Maybe this ain’t the job for you. This topic has been covered ad nauseum for years now. Use the motherfucking search feature. I give up trying to be nice.

The world is moving forward fortunately. I am glad that I can have a career that is exciting and at the same time have the opportunity to have a family. No woman in her right mind would accept that her husband is gone for several years nowadays. If I had to work for several years before I could be a few months at home I would not have been a sailor.
I must say I am somewhat impressed that you accept it. In Norway we work 28:28 on ships, and 14:28 on the platforms.
14/14 is more normal on coastal tugs here, some working 21/21, few are still 28/14. I personally won’t do anything other than equal-time, half of my life away from home is enough as 28/14 usually is more like 30/12 when you factor in time lost to travel. I think 28/14 will slowly be going away more and more.

I believe there was a post on gCaptain recently, That Shell will be requiring 5 licensed deck officers on board there osv at all times, in 2014. I.e. 2 mates on watch at time with a Floating Master
Yes, BP is now requiring five licensed deck officers at all times. Can get a bit crowded with the extra personnel aboard.
This was intend to be a CURRENT LIST of company’s that have equal time hitches available to deck officers. Its not ad nauseum. 28/14 was the norm for years years. Only recently has equal time become available. This thread was not about engineers and only ECO HOS as you referred to in your FIRST post on here #2 by the way. This is not about deck verse engineers or the pros and cons of 2/1 verse 1/1 hitches…See post #6 Jemplayer Top Contributer and post #8 BMCSRetired Top Contributer Hit the nail on the head… YOU said “Trying not to be a smart ass” You are. YOU said “Use the motherfucking search feature”. I say read the motherfucking thread title. I Don’t need you to be nice
My last post was for Fraqrats post #22
When did Shell start requiring that? I still have 4 guys on my bridge.
Dude you need to switch to decaf coffee.
You started this thread looking for info, and while I applaud your effort and sentiment, I condemn your reaction when not everybody hopped to it to fulfill your request that now feels like a demand or an order.
It’s teh interwebz.
Chill the fuck out.

Sorry. BP.
This hitch has been too long.
My apologies!
Are you that dense? 28/14 hasn’t been the norm since like 2000. After 911 it slowed down and people worked 28/14 outta necessity to pay bills. Since Katrina most people have worked even time. Is the last 8+ years current enough or you? Try using the search function and yes you will see it’s been discussed a lot in the last 2 years. There are whole threads dedicated to people saying mud boat people are stupid for working it and everyone having to explain that it’s not the norm anymore. It is my understanding having read all these threads that Chouest is the only company that mainly runs a 2/1 schedule.
Tell y’all what … I’ll be in Louisiana most of Feb. knocking out some endorsements for my upgrade. During that time, I plan on stopping around at all the usual suspects to get a sense of what schedules are offered, what hiring is looking like in the next few months and ballpark pay scales.
I’ll try to remember to carry whatever I find out from the horses’ mouths to the horse’s ass … er, I mean I’ll write that sh*t down and post it up here. Okay? Okay.
