Dealings with the NMC

Has anyody had any recent business, good or bad, with Martinsburg lately? I’ve had several transactions/communications with them in the past three months and the results have been timely and professional. It looks like maybe they got it all together!
Just wondering. Inquiring minds and all that…

I’m rather impressed personally, compared to what it was like before. I’ve called numerous times and been answered immediately. Took two weeks to get a copy of my entire file. Sent my application two weeks ago and have had an update via email almost every day. They must be having pep rallies every friday or something to have this kind if customer service!

Once I finally got into direct email contact with my evaluator things have gone quite smoothly with prompt service.

Same here actually. All good things. Quick turn around and email updates almost everyday. Hope it’s a new trend.

Hell, it’s not just me then. I was starting to feel …special:p

Tested on Monday in Mandeville and Tuesday WV had the upgrade in the mail. Just a quantum leap from the 122 days and three printings on '09!

I have been licensed since 1981 and am currently renewing my 500grt upon oceans. This is my first time dealing with the NMC because my last issue was in 1997. It used to be that I could walk out of the REC with my license in had the same day as my test. While my communication with the NMC has been pleasant and status information quite accessible online I still do not have my new credential in hand after sending in my application in mid June.
I sent in my application and related documents knowing that I am short on sea time (for the first time in my career) and that I will need to take the test but I have yet to receive the test. I have been on top of every transition of my paperwork between the REC and the NMC , but gone are the days when I could walk in, test and go back to work. My license is expired now and I am loosing work. I know now that I should have started the process sooner I was working towards putting more days at sea. My mistake I understand since I was not going to get to 365 anyway. In my defense though I had been able to go from application to test and license in hand much quicker in the old days.

Congrats, MtSkier! My recent renewal went just fine as well. No complaints here.

I just got my approval today, sent the package away 16July. I’m impressed to say the least.I can’t remember it ever going so smoothly.

Wow! Application arrived on the 18th, approved today! Unreal! Thank you NMC!!

What the hell is going on??

Application received June 23rd,Issued & mail on July 12th.
Now that’s what I am talking about.

This is a good thing. For me, it relieves a lot of stress not having to wait for response or action from the NMC. Even bad news is better than none, in my book.

I have been licensed since 1981. This is my renewal year with my last issue in 1997. While my dealings with the NMC have been pleasant and organized, this renewal has taken longer than any of my previous upgrades or renewals. Granted this is the first time I have not met seatime requirements and I am aware that I need to take a refresher test. I sent application and related docs in on June 20 and I just received my test in the mail on July 27th. While my dealings with the NMC have been pleasant, gone are the days when I could walk in to the REC, test and walk out with my document in hand same day.

Sent in application for QMED, was received at REC New York July 25. Got email today with approval to test.

Sent in my RFPNW last month and got good communications from NMC. It took about 3.5 weeks to get it back. Much better than the 5 months it took to convince them that 150 Ton Master was a real license (a highlighted copy of the CFR finally convinced them but they forgot the Radar endorsement for the second time) They are on the right track.

Good to see all of this. The last dealings I had with them were 2 1/2 years ago and they were GREAT! It was a very welcome change from the nightmare days of having to deal with JM Cornish in the Houston REC.

Application received Oct 11, Approved to Test Oct 17, tested on 19-20 Nov, Credential issued on 29 Nov, for original MMC w/QMED Electrician, Jr. Engineer, and Oiler ratings. My little red book is now in my fat little paw.

Not bad, I am very pleased with how streamlined the process is. I did make sure I had all my paperwork squared away and had someone at MAMA take a second look, which helped. The NMC answered all my questions promptly and courteously. The folks at Baltimore REC were friendly and helpful, too.

And want to add: I used the heck out of the search function. I would have been infinitely more annoying and even more deserving of the pointy stick had I not done so. Search is my new best friend.

Did they put Able Seafarer-Engine on it too?

Ive been blown away by the wording issues. Is there no standard? How could two people turn in the same thing and get slightly differently worded credentials?
