Current Turnaround times for USCG License Renewals

I was told recently when I was renewing my MMC that you no longer have to ask for a delay of issuance , that the C.G. was now going to issue them with the date the current one expires on. So you no longer lose time when renewing early.

What an extremely sensible thing for a government agency to do.

As a CG veteran i am ashamed of the NMC, I think it is being deliberately made incompetent, that is the only thing I can come up with. Please know it isn’t members of the CG staffing the REC or NMC it is largely civilians… I recently got my MMC and I got lucky, relatively…, only took 90 days, a friend of mine was put through a bunch of BS, they were asking for completely off the wall shit that had nothing to do with what he was applying for… all the while having to bite his tongue because they basically have your career in their hands…

So again I apologize for the utter incompetence, and I have no other explanation but that it must be deliberate, because it flies in the face of the extremely high standards that the service prides itself on. I even asked a friend to investigate, not for my sake, but for the sake and safety of the general public, and for the validity and credibility of all of our licenses and documents,

I have learned that someone used their RFPNW assessments to get their OIC endorsement, that is scary stuff, also heard of someone who had the qualifications for a 6 pac apply for and get an ok to sit for a 1600 ton masters, you see the incompetency works both ways…qualified people are getting screwed and unqualified people are taking advantage of the chaos.

the NMC is a disgrace, should be disbanded, and competitively bid out to a private service provider.

It’s now been 1 week since i passed my exam…still haven’t printed my new license. They are telling me turnaround time from approved to issue till the actual printed and mailed is 10 days right now. I sent a prepaid overnight shipping label so at least the mailing time will be limited. If they ever print it. I am a bit anxious to say the least!

No way I would trust that. If over a career I renew one extra time so be it.

I started the process on the 26th of March. My medical certificate has been issued for over two weeks now. My application is at a bottle neck, ready to be evaluated PQEB since 6 May. This is really unbelievable. Things were supposed to have improved, not slowed down.

Heads need to roll at NMC.

After applying for a few credentials in March, I’m happy to say it only took a good two months for them to be processed, but not before reading several dozen posts on here, I figured it would take that long anyways. They were mailed out last Friday, so should arrive any day now (hopefully). After reading the report they recently released, maybe late summer / early fall would be a better time to submit for processing, if only it were that easy.

…that’s what happened with my renewal. I was a bit surprised

Just heard that my Mmc renewal was approved and issued. Took a total of 7 weeks

8 weeks to renew my MMC in the P.N.W.

And it begins again, “I submitted via USPS with tracking on 4/29 an endorsement application plus supporting docs, but don’t see it in the system yet.” “Oh dear… we don’t have any record of that at REC Miami… you should definitely resubmit it.”

I sent mine in jan 2014 and no issues at all, 28 days later had renewed mmc in hand, I was in awe:)

Submitting via email is good because you can send it again if you need to.

I submitted my docs on Monday morning to the REC via e-mail. Received a e-mail back 30 minutes later stating that I had missed a supporting document. Scanned the document and was notified that it was received at the NMC yesterday “Wednesday”. I recommend e-mail over USPS…

Try this email address, REC-TOL-AppSubmission@uscg.mil. Like I said before my renewal package was at the NMC in two days.

Initially submitted all my paperwork to Charleston REC on April 1. As of June 10, I finally got all the way up to “Awaiting info PQEB” with the message below. I’m hoping that the paper letter I will eventually get from them will explain what the heck this actually means. Why would it say it three times? And what’s the point of having the RECs spot check applications if the NMC doesn’t care/recognize their blessing?

The Coast Guard requires the following additional information from you: Application for Merchant Mariner Credential, Application for Merchant Mariner Credential, and Application for Merchant Mariner Credential.

I submitted my docs to the REC on the May 22nd, Cleared Medical on the 5th of June and have been on the “Awaiting assignment of a PQEB evaluator” since the 6th of June.

You can call them and they will tell you what the letter say’s. Why they don’t email you to begin with I have no idea. I submitted in April and I am still waiting. Most Items could be taken care of immediately with a phone call or email. They make much to much work on themselves by sending out these letters, Now your application will go in a pile and when they get your response you will have to wait for your folder to work it’s way to the top again. I bet a handful of us could go in there and clear up a whole back load of application by just using common sense.
