Below is the gCaptain article on it. While jumping to conclusions can be fun & a good way to pass time I really don’t have an opinion on this yet. And once the “facts” do come out there’s little chance the US & Cuba will have the same set.
And doubly stupid to be shooting at the Cuban coast guard while in those waters.
They’re still a little salty about Bay of Pigs and probably half expect another round of filibustering “yanquis” on their island after Maduro’s ouster.

Rep. Carlos A. Gimenez, representing Florida’s 28th Congressional district, characterized the event as an attack by the Cuban government, stating: “The dictatorship in #Cuba has just attacked a boat from Florida & murdered those on board. This regime must be relegated to the dust bin of history!”
And this happened 1 mile from shores of Cuba after the boat crew/pax opened fire as per Cuban version.
Surprised Cuba has not 12 NM of territorial waters and is not a signatory of UNCLOS.

It now appears it was Cuban nationals living in S. Florida on the FL registered boat. Having lived among them I can attest to the fact that there are some nutso Cubans living in S. Florida longing for the glory days of Cuba and Bautista. They have been convicted of bombings and assassinations including in the USA. However they are treated with deference by the US government compared to other radical political groups.

Coming back to your mentioned FACT, the issue was already discussed here in Alaska/Arctic threads and some really important military and political Gov. dudes explained why it is extremely convenient for the Country in questions . Although the debate between oponnetnts and supporters of UNCLOS seems to be hot.
Even Dr.Sal has also mentioned and opined on this in his utube videos. But my observation ( not complaint !!!) is the present status quo dovetails nicely with the recent widely quoted statements of Donroe doctrine supporters : we need no laws or conventions being guided by our own morality.
I think it makes sense.

Someone should write an encyclopedia on all the different types of nutso living in Florida. But so far it’s safe to say this group should be in it. Some news outlets are claiming the boat was stolen on top of all the other head scratching issues with this story.
