The holidays will be a little brighter in the Dominican Republic this year thanks to Crowley as the city of Santo Domingo lights up with millions of neon lights and thousands of families gather to enjoy Iguana Park carnival festivities.

Crowley delivered an entire amusement park to Rio Haina, Dominican Republic for Amusements of America, the world’s largest traveling amusement company. All 56 pieces of amusement park rides and equipment were loaded onboard the Crowley Americas for the upcoming Iguana Park amusement park in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Iguana Park, which boasts 40 different rides and attractions, is the largest amusement park in the Caribbean. It opens on Thursday, Dec. 3.

DR amusement park 3This is the second year Crowley has handled the heavy and odd-sized cargo out of Port Everglades in Florida, which is reflective of the skill and professionalism of the company’s terminal and operations groups who handled the Roll On/Roll Off cargo with special care and attention.

The majority of the cargo was not enclosed in metal containers, but rather in mostly open flatbeds and open top trailers, which require the Ro/Ro vessel ramp angle to be correct at all times. Tides, ship trim and the ballast must be monitored constantly to avoid high centering of equipment. Special equipment and attachments must be used and sometimes designed to handle the unique needs of the cargo, explained Mike Hopkins, Crowley vice president of operations.

Marco Vivona of Amusements of America said Crowley was contracted because of the company’s service and delicate treatment of the cargo in 2008 and vessel schedule integrity.
