Yantian Express Abandoned in North Atlantic Due to Ongoing Container Fire
The crew of the containership Yantian Express has been evacuated as the container fire continues to burn on board the ship in the North Atlantica, Hapag-Lloyd said in an update on Sunday.
Sounds like the crew got off onto a tug OK .
There have been too many container fires like this late. Now Maersk and other container shipping companies are looking at ways to ensure proper declaration of content and proper stowage/lashing of cargo in containers before loading:
DonJon’s Atlantic Enterprise (Mr Pete) is heading out towards the ship along with a few Canadian and Euro tugs.
