California Opacity Testing Requirements
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) began requiring opacity testing https://ww2.arb.ca.gov/resources/fact-sheets/chc-factsheet-opacity-testing-guide for commercial harbor craft (CHC) with the amendments to the CHC regulations that went into effect on January 1, 2023.
ALL California vessel operators are required to complete opacity testing by March 31, 2024. However, CARB realizes that implementation for all vessel operators is not possible by that date.
If a vessel cannot complete opacity testing by March 31, 2024, CARB staff have communicated that a demonstrated intent to comply with opacity testing requirements will be an important factor.
Vessel operators can demonstrate their intent to comply by scheduling and paying for opacity testing with Green Yachts by March 31, 2024. Documentation of scheduling and payment can be provided by vessel operators to CARB in order to provide demonstration of a vessel operator’s intent to comply with CARB opacity testing requirements.
Should your vessel or fleet need to schedule your opacity test - please feel free to let our team know! To date, we are the first and only vendor approved by CARB for certifying vessels with dry and wet exhaust systems, as well as keeping the cost to comply extremely competitive.
While some non-marine companies are charging well over $1500 per engine, we charge the following:
First Engine (pay before scheduled date) $650, Second Engine and each additional $300
First Engine (pay AFTER scheduled test) $700, Second Engine and each additional $350
Group Rate - (5 or more vessels) that pay in advance $300 per engine.
