Brexit - Norway may close access to its waters to EU and British fishing

Now imagine what is left of the EEZ if Scotland and NI breaks away from the UK:

BTW; Majority of the UK oil fields are in what would become the Scottish EEZ

There was talk of the Shetland and Orkney Islands declaring independence from Scotland and the UK, many of the younger more profitable oil and gas fields would be in their hypothetical EEZ, Scotland would mostly be left with the older less profitable oil fields that are in need of expensive decommissioning. Also some of the best fishing grounds would be in the Shetlands and Orkney EEZ.

They’ll be welcome back!!!:

The Kalmar Union lost Orkney and Shetland because the King couldn’t afford to pay his daughters dowry and he had used the islands as collateral to back the dowry.

I wonder if Denmark or Norway tried to pay the dowry now they could try and claim the islands back haha.

The Orkney and Shetland islands came under Scottish control on 20 February 1472 after they had been used as security for the wedding dowry of Margaret of Denmark, the future wife of King James III of Scotland. The marriage was seen as a way of uniting Denmark and Scotland, following years of disagreements about taxation of the Hebrides Islands.

Margaret’s father Christian of Denmark had agreed to a large dowry for his daughter’s wedding and pledged the islands of Orkney and Shetland as security until the dowry was paid, as he lacked the funds to pay the dowry up front.

Yea but how much would the dowry be, adjusted for inflation?

Interesting question, from what I can find the dowry was 50000 florins for Orkney and 8000 florins for Shetland, English florins from that time weighed 7 grams of gold, today a gram of gold is worth $59.46.

58000 x 7 x 59.46 = $24,140,760

That Union was Fake. The Danes cheated us out of a win. Norway became colonized, lost it’s freedom and all it’s “overseas possessions”, incl. Greenland, Iceland and the islands you mentioned., among others.

We should have organized a mob and stormed Amalienborg to claim back our rightful property.
Is it too late??

And in interest?

Don’t let us get too technical here.
In our day and age it is a question of “The Will of the People”. (defined as what I think “the people” want)

If the people on Orkney and Shetland decide to get back to their roots, so be it.
Who’s to going them the right to self-determination??

Back to fishery after Brexit:

Seems the folks of Orkney and Shetland are comfortable with their current arrangement.
