Before I become an effing idiot new guy at a Powerstroke forum

that SIR is uncalled for! I have asked your post be deleted forthwith and sooner if possible…

now let’s have no more of that please?

forgot to get the photos of my F350 as mentioned earlier but is visiting TheDieselStop.com this evening I discovered this unfortunate series of photos of a prototype 2016 Ford Super Duty self immolating in a desert somewhere…

which shows exactly why it is a terrible idea to build any vehicle out of mainly plastic and aluminum…especially a heavy duty truck!

Nope

What are there no sheep in Norway? is this some uniquely bizarre predilection of Norwegian men to insert their penises into their vehicles?

I am going to ask you again to please put the keyboard down NOW!

 i’m just too cool for school

The 6.7 is a pulling MF. that said they are a little pricey. If you’re near Louisiana I know of a very clean 7.3 for sale

YO Capt…whats happenin with that six-o?!

PS…anyone notice, NO fire retardant /extinguisher residue in first photo with flare up, but in the last photo burned to the ground there is a BRAND new one on the ground? ā€œPull pin, throw, put head between legs, kiss ass goodbyeā€ …?? I’m thinking if i’m flying, fawking, or floating a prototype I want emergency supplies on board…blame my STCW training…or my health teacher in high school…
YO Capt…whats happenin with that six-o?!
haven’t been to start in on it yet…too many other higher priorities on the plate but I did order my letter of compliance from Ford this afternoon. The F350 came from Canada and I need that letter to be able to officially import it into the US and then title and register the truck in WA.

Saturday was a big bust for the marine swap meet…would have been much better spent diagnosing the six-o.

.

Loving this thread. Got a 99 7.3 that I’ve decided to keep. Less than 85000 miles. Was prepared to buy the new '15 aluminum bodied 150. Thing is, it’s more than I payed for my first two houses. The 7.3s seem to be going up in value. Getiing new exhaust, intake, and a mild tuner.

you know it seems like there might be a good business finding decent 7.3l super duty’s and flipping them. Hearing and reading more and more about how the price differential and extreme complexity of the new Powerstroke trucks is just going to send more and more men back to find a good 7.3l one.

anyway, good to be in a club with so many others here…now to get mine running right with a working turbo!

That iPhone thing you showed is really impressive. It doesn’t seem all that long ago that the only way to obtain OBDII data stream was through a $10,000 Snap-On Modis or the more bargain priced OTC for about $8,000. I would jump on it especially if it has live data, freeze frame stuff and the ability to tinker.

Like Benjammin was saying, EGR is a way to reduce NOx emissions by lowering the cylinder temperatures by introducing exhaust gases that won’t burn. I think it has something to do with stoichiometry. Most emissions crap tends to lower MPG and power so removing an EGR will increase both; however, whether or not you can delete emissions depends on whether or not you live in an area that has emissions on diesels. In Philly, gasoline cars go through emissions but anything on diesel does not so we can do pretty much what ever we want to a diesel engine. Not sure how the rest of the country works, let alone the People’s Republic of Washington.

One more thing, I can’t stop laughing at your beer. For one, I feel jealous that Costco doesn’t sell beer in Pennsylvania. Things with alcohol are really messed up here, more so than they are in Utah, which is really messed up. When I say laughing, I laughing at the pain you have to be going through on that low dollar crap. I switched to really expensive shit a while back and damn does my head feel better the next morning.

Good luck. I look forward to the photos. And you don’t have to worry about me raiding your stash of beer.

Trainman, you have a 6.0 too? Mods/miles? This makes me think I need a GCaptain window sticker…
No, I don’t have a 6.0 but have been around a garage all of my life. At the garage we’ve seen everything from simple oil changes to funky camshaft position sensors and everything in between. We have a few tow trucks and a some cars to race in and I dabble in the class 8, heavy truck world. I have seen enough that I get a general idea what the symptoms are and just go for it, calling audibles all along the way.

sorry for the delays in both photos and news on the F350…working these daze onboard the ORCA finishing her annual season of charters. Soon there will be something good to report plus pics too!

well still no pics to post but word in from the fellow helping me with the F350 did some work on it today to start diagnosing the problems and apparently he found the turbo in frozen solid and not able to be spun at all. Is this possible to just happen and if so what would cause it short of a failure of oil to bearings? Now, just to clarify that I have not been to see the truck yet since returning to the NW yesterday so I am completely mystified at this news. I have never heard of a turbo just freezing…heard of them blowing up or melting down but not seizing. Also, what are the ramifications if this is true?

talk to me Benj…

Just wanted to bump this. I’ve found it both educational and entertaining.
Just wanted to bump this. I’ve found it both educational and entertaining.
Ironically, just arrived back home after a quick visit to my shop where I met with the fellow doing the work. He was correct that the turbo is locked up tight and can’t be spun even a bit so likely is toast but I did find a good rebuilt turbo to drop in her so by the time I arrive back from HI, the rig should be good to go with an EGR delete too!

Bad news is that I found that even though an F350, this truck is in no way strong enough to tow that survey vessel I recently bought as it just weighs too damned much. Being a 6.0l and automatic, I’d very likely detonate the drive train if I had to encounter a grade so when I return, it will be to start searching for a 7.3l F350 with a 5speed ZF manual tranny but it will still have to be a 4x4 like this one is. Doubt I will be able to do a straight across trade but at least I can sell this one to help defer the expense. Had a shot at a 1997 F350 quad cab 4x4 w/ a 7.3l & 5spd (234k miles) for only $4500 that needed front end work but ran out of time to go look at it.
