Due to report on the 11th. Back into the 2015 season at 8am on the 12th! Should run until Jan 2016. I’m gonna try to take more time off this year than last. Only took one 30 day vacation last year but like the damm $$$ too much. I wish we worked on shares sometimes we hauled +126 loads last season. (+2,000,000 tons) As Bosun I get more overtime than I want sometimes.(anything over 8 hours, on the brightside it counts towards the quarterly bonus 10% of pay) I have to be at the winches everytime we tie up(load, unload, locks, fuel) and when equiptment fails/breakages in addition to normal watch rotation and required repairs/maintance. I have a great job just somedays I wish I was home! Like THIS day…just like “deadlyest catch without the crabs”
Rebel, Do you ride one of American"s non-union boats?
Are the Lakers non-union and the ocean going union?

I think some of the Lake jobs are union and some not. I think Interlake hires directly.
Yep on the GATX = ASC = LSC(Liberty Steamship Company) Amercian Courage. I’m on one of three of the ships that are non-union. Don’t know much about the ocean going vessels. Sometimes I think I’d like to work on one for a hitch just to see what it’s about.

I have a (small) chunk of the bow of the American Mariner after she had her steering problems late in '99 or early 2000. We happened to be in the same yard in Toledo.

Hornbeck?? Up north??
stolen hard hat
Haha I figured that
Nope got when I worked for Hornbeck, along with shirts, pants, coveralls etc. Still use the helmet cause I like it better than the buckets they provide for free.
If you want to get a good hard hat check out Northern Tool & Grainger. I’m sure you can pay cash @ granger & use your company’s account for a better price. I do
Nice. The question is how many Benjamins will it take to buy it???
I think this one is the one I need…it would help keep my perspective when working.
Lol that’s pretty sweet

I think it’s $60 or so on ebay. I was going to get one but we have got safety yellow/green madness going on. I got some of these to avoid having to wear the damm safety vest same as mine but mine has pockets.
Burining up the decks, styling and profiling… lol but after a week they will be covered in crap and taconite red.
Back to work tomm!! Dang!
Hello, I was recently laid off from the Gulf and have become interested in checking out some Great Lakes companies. I have browsed the ASC website and there doesn’t appear to be an option to directly apply as It mentions most of their unlicensed ratings go through SIU. There are a list of forms to download and fill out and an email to send them to, is that how you got hired there? Also, what other companies are on the Great Lakes?
It is my understanding that the companies on the Great Lakes are getting geared up for the season and may have some openings coming up. Thank you for any info.
Call them and ask how the application process works.
