The Alaska Maritime Training Center in Seward AK is seeking a Maritime Instructor Department Head. This position is now open to all applicants and NOT restricted to just Alaska residents. As a teaching job you only work nine months a year and have the summers off. Most instructors supplement their income by working summer fishing or tour boat jobs, but you still maintain your State of Alaska health insurance year round.
The USCG requires a minimum of two years service as an officer on vessels over 200 Gross Registered Tons to teach some of the most basic courses (or military equivalent). USCG enlisted personnel with Deck Watch Officer qualifications on larger US Coast Guard cutters would meet this requirement.
AVTEC teaches most of the USCG required merchant marine courses; RADAR, ECDIS, BASIC TRAINING, ADV FIRE, 100TON MASTER, VSO, etc.
Additionally, AVTEC is expecting to open a position soon for just a regular maritime instructor that will be open to all applicants and NOT limited to Alaska residents.
