More on the reindeers with wanderlust.
Following their instincts they have now return to the Norwegian side of the broder:
It is a farce.
Now they are becoming propaganda fodder rather than steaks.
"The spirits do not forgive this,” Zakharova said in a post on Telegram , pointing to the old Saami legend about Mayandash, an ancestor to the herders who was a reindeer shapeshifter.
“The Norwegian neoliberal and animal haters from veterinary authorities wanted to spit on the feelings of the Saami and their mythology,” she continued.
But the farce is not one-sided. Because they had been grazing on Russian soil they are regarded as having been “illegally imported” and have be en slaughtered:
This week, the Norwegian Agriculture Agency said 40 of the animals were brought back, but all were slaughtered after an order by the Food Safety Authority. Norway has a general ban on import of animals from countries subject to restrictions due to serious contagious diseases.
PS> It doesn’t say whether the meat was eaten, or destructed
Or whether the skins were dried and tanned for sale to tourists.

Historic meeting in the Northwest Passage:
Roald Amundsen was the first to complete a sailing through the NWP in 1906.
In the Wake of Great Explorers: Roald Amundsen
An ice-covered maritime route that links the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans through the Arctic, the Northwest Passage has long captivated the imaginations of travelers. In 1906, Roald Amundsen (best known for being the first person to reach the South Pole) pioneered the first successful Northwest passage crossing, a three-year journey culminating in Nome, Alaska. His achievement was the result of diligent study, learning from both former explorers and native Inuit societies who provided indispensable insights into surviving in the Arctic.

The one and only Norwegian coal fired power station has been shut down:
The last remaining Norwegian coal digging, at mine No. 7, will soon also be shut down , leaving Svalbard with only the Russians operating a cold mine and the coal power plant in Barentsburg.
New diesel aggregates will for the nearest future be the main energy source for the nearly 2,500 inhabitants. In the longer run, though, Longyearbyen aims for a zero-emission energy supply.
PS> Power production on mainland Norway is 98% renewable (Hydro, wind, solar)
The only gas powered electricity production is on offshore oil & gas platforms and the LNG processing plant at Melkøya. Work are in progress to supply even those with renewable power.
