Another bridge incident - Mexican sail training vessel Cuauhtémoc

See also video at post 257 by By-C. Seems a very reasonable assumption that the two civilians are pilots.

I would say that the Bay Pilot would be reluctant to become involved when things started to unravel.

That is disappointing. Only one can conn, but, at least IMO, the second professional there can assist, pay attention to what is happening, check discreetly that helm and engine orders are being correctly executed. Help process information like " hey Bill you have a ton of prop wash astern" etc.

It is a written testimony , witness statement or deposition if You like of a man with expertise of watching the pilots.

It is interesting with regard to both the “Dali” and “Cuauhtemoc” incidents.

Both vessels suffered machinery malfunctions at critical junctures and in both cases fatalities and damage could have been prevented by attending tugs. In the case of Cuauhtemoc”,had the tug been made fast in the correct position and secondly had the “Dali” had attending tugs until clear of the bridge.
We are inundated with one explanation……..COST!
It would be interesting to calculate how many tug attendances you could provide out of the arising litigation……both on life and property.
Often referred to as risk management.

he is paid from A to B even if He he joins at C. Very often asks for pilot cabin and leaves instructions when to call him.

Yeah .I see some two dudes -supposedly Gringos - and one signing what could be MPX doc.

I also hear mucho orchestra playing some fancy music y canciones which is a bit too loud FIESTA for me. On open bridge it was definitely too much noise . With such level of noise confusion is easy especialy when the pilot having the con is outside this little thing with chartroom and instruments including vital controls . If the Commodore and Pilote were outside and the OOW was inside aided by vhf and responding to commands …well i am not sure about the overall results especialy that , the crew , officers con senior Admirante were still dizzy with received admiration and adulation from mexican crowds, who welcomed them then recived them and finally bode the fairwell . Such atmosphere is intoxicating . Been there , done that .

Dr.Sal M. latest video does not reveal anything abt second pilot though.

Added : the video clip is from 1976 Boston and it gives one an idea what kind of frenzy was going on when tall ships paid a visit there. It was crazy . WBZ Archives: The Tall Ships Visit BostonWBZ Archives: The Tall Ships Visit Boston

Some boys never returned to their home coutry finding wifes in turbo mode among local immigrants speaking their lingo .

  1. A very pleasant evening, on an unusual vessel, with young people secured to the yards illuminated by bright lights and the shores covered with spectators.
  2. He needs to acquaint himself with the vessel systems because he will be assuming the con in 1.5 nautical miles.
  3. He is not going down to the cabin for a nap.

This is according to the book. reality show may be different sometimes. You inserted Dr.Sal video . Do you agree with Dr.Sal statement that the only contibution to 5.9 kt speed at kaboom was the stuck CPP ??? I do not as per excellent drawing by @By-C

I have mentioned this sensing the tribalism creeping in.

Different pilots having different responsibilities for different sections is not unusual. A North Sea pilot pilot might be optional but a Washington State Pilot for Puget Sound is not and neither is a Trinity House pilot up the Thames. The interval between the docking pilot handing over on departure is quite short and I have not seen them leave the bridge.

Spo,

Do you need a hug?

If my memory serves me correctly, I was the first to raise this potential contributory factor at post #256. So, no, I do not believe that a CPP failure was the only factor in creating the high level of sternway.

Yeah. U give me a hug and I will give U a medal. The tiny public here will know but the 500K subscribers will know sth a bit different and this will sink in the memories. Little thing but How revealing. This is how opinios are shaped who was a bad dude and who was not. And this my Dear Aus is propaganda. My point is why others who know clammy up w/o pointing it out. ? Is it out of respect or is it because of tribalism. ?

Spo,

Sorry that you feel that way.

All the best.

There are no Trinity House Pilots on The Thames and have not been since 1988

What a coincidence- neither have I. :slightly_smiling_face:

Are you a Trinity House Pilot then?

Sometimes sea pilots come at berth with docking pilot , sometimes they board from the tug collecting docking piltot when he is done. It depends and it is a generał observation from all over the world where pilot service is split like that. And U May believe it or not , some who are familiar with the type of ship , when conditions are not challenging and they met and knew well the master , they do the handover at the pilot ladder.

Wow :joy: :joy: oh shit!!!

Shit happens :joy: :joy:

Ideally 2 small 500 hp tugs would be ideal
