The first article below about a young American woman finishing her solo row across the Atlantic caught my attention 2 days ago. After looking deeper into it I was surprised to discovered nearly 950 people have done it. The first man, John Fairfax, did it in 1969 & the first lady, Tori Murden finished 30 years later in 1999. I now have read a few articles on the subject but haven’t figured out why the latest crosser did it in December & January? Bad months to be in the North Atlantic imo.

Reading Cod by Mark Kurlansky. In that book he writes “In 1876, Alfred Johnson, a Danish-born Gloucester doryman, responding to a dare, sailed his sixteen-foot boat from Gloucester to Abercastle, Wales in fifty-eight days, the first one-man North Atlantic crossing ever recorded.”
It’s not foot noted so we don’t know the source for above but the book has a great bibliography and lots of recipes for salt cod.
Not taking anything away from anyone who rows out of sight of land Norwegian or not.
