ABS Notation for previously unclassed vessel

Does anyone know what is involved in taking an old OSV without a loadline and getting it classed to work overseas? Does it have to meet ABS requirements as of the current date, does it need just a loadline or full hull and machinery, etc…?

It depends on the size of the Vessel, the age and the requirements fo the flag state overseas. If it was built to Class requirements and that documentation is still available, that will certainly shorten the process. Also remember that there are many other Class societies other than ABS. The issuance of a Load Line Certificate is exercised under authority of the flag state where the Vessel is registered. Most nations allow certain Class societies to issue the certs; however some do not. Mexico comes to mind immediately, since I have had some experience when I was with ABS dealing with Mexican flag vessels.
