I currently hold a 3rd mates lic. I am looking to upgrade to 2nd mate. I am currently on a unlimited boat however I have 400 days on tugs that are 198 grt. Am I going to be sol if I want to upgrade ? I know it says time on under 200grt dosent count. But do they make any wiggle room? Or are my tug days worthless?

Close doesn’t count. All of the time has to be over 200 GRT.
Pretty much SOL .
Close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades!
And thermonuclear weapons
No wiggle room at all!! But you can use that time towards your master of towing!
The tug I was on was 199 tons… no wiggle room. 200 means 200, I dont think there is any way around it.
I agree. Absolutely no wiggle room. I worked as a licensed captain on vessels mostly under two hundred ton and was give no credit towards an unlimited upgrade. One of my shipmates worked as a deckhand on a fishing boat over two hundred ton and received full credit towards is upgrade. Makes no sense.
