200grt 500 gt oceans what stcw code II/?

Under the current uscg stcw code what is the stcw code for master 200grt / 500 gt oceans. Is it II/2 ? Can some one provide where to find this ? Under the new stcw code is it still limited to domestic oceans?

If you don’t want to tell me the answer , simply provide the cfr or current nvic.

Thanks,

Any input? I know that I/3 is for near coastal . I just can’t confirm if a oceans 200grt/500gt would carry a II/2 ? How would it be worded on the document , I hear it’s limited to domestic oceans but can’t find the cfr to show me what the license would exactly say. Someone tell me I’m an idiot for not knowing and inform me. Also the new license 200grt / 500 gt MATE oceans , what’s is its stcw code and is it limited to domestic oceans also.

Thanks to all who reads,

I have read both sites many times but still no answer to if 200grt oceans is limited to " domestic oceans" if you meet II/2 requirements ? Or what this new mate 200grt oceans stcw code is?

Stcw.org hasn’t been updated since 2010 and still refers to z-cards. I had one NMC phone call, where they told me a 200grt / 500gt wouldn’t be restricted to domestic ocean if I meet all II/2 requirements. Then another nmc employee tell me different. I imagine with separating the national and stcw , that I might get a more clear answer.

Some chief engineers would find this exchange disheartening … I find it amusing.

You are on your own now.

Where I’m lost is II/3 is near costal but to have oceans isn’t near coastal but to go II/2 is a ship 500GT or more ? That is why I am confused. Master 500GT oceans shouldn’t be I/3 cause that is a near coastal voyage , but to have I/2 means you are good for 500GT or more ?

Final answer is ? II/3 is the code for master 200GRT/500GT OCEANS? My final conclusion ? Please confirm or correct.

Thanks for your help steamer.

It’s II/2. Look at section 2 of STCW Regulation II/3: “Every Master serving on a seagoing ship of less than 500 gross tonnage not engaged on near coastal voyages shall hold a certificate of competency for service as master on ships between 500 and 3,000 gross tonnage.”

Thanks Mr.Cavo , is the ocean endorsement II/2 for the 200GRT /500GT, limited to domestic oceans ? Or at one time was it. I’m looking at taking a celestial course to add oceans to my 200GRT but heard that under 500GRT license it is limited to domestic oceans ?

Thank you,

This is the new STCW checklist for Master 500GT Oceans and on the header it says II/3 ?

There is no domestic oceans, just oceans.

You are intermixing the license with the STCW endorsement, they are separate. You would still take the exam for the license as Master 200 GRT Oceans. You would be “limited” to domestic voyages only if you do not also hold an STCW endorsement.

To upgrade from 200GRT NC STCW II/3 to 200GRT Oceans II/2 , is just approval to test for Oceans or a approved course, and possible rules of the road again ? Many thanks Mr.Cavo , this has been hard for me to understand, and calls to NMC and MPT only confused me more.
