Why is Finland ranked #1 on World Happiness Report year after year?:

Finland has reigned supreme in the world happiness charts for eight years, including in the most recent report, released earlier this year.
“Finland is the land of quiet satisfaction,” said Frank Martela, a professor researching human well-being and motivation at Aalto University in Finland. “When Finnish people stop to think about their lives, they realize that things are relatively okay.”

The World Happiness Report is put out by the Wellbeing Research Center at Oxford, the U.N. Sustainable Development Solutions Network and an independent editorial board, with polling by Gallup. The report uses the Cantril Scale, developed by researcher Hadley Cantril, to survey people in more than 140 countries on their self-reported well-being — and to examine the conditions that give rise to it.
