No, it’s because American yards haven’t invested in automation technology so they require like 5 times the number of employees (or more) as South Korea, which pays comparable wages to the US.

In 2006, I was in South Korea at Hyundai - Mipo shipyard located in Ulsan. During the course of a meeting with the shipyard president he made the comment that the average wage of the workers/welders there made $50,000 USD/year. That was 17 years ago.

Two years ago according to people with insider info they knew it was a decent possibility for it to be delivered at the end of this summer. In the acceptance ceremony after it was delivered (now deleted off the internet for some reason), they used the phrase “on time and on budget” to describe the project.
