Will we ever take cruise holidays again?

Ohh so American Managers and office workers don’t count for as much as Mariners??
Maybe YOU are ill informed and have miss informed me?

BTW; not all cruise lines are managed from USA and not all cruise ships are owned by American companies, or operates out of American port, with all American passengers.
(But then you knew that, I presume??)

Give it a feckin’ rest. No one said office workers don’t count as much as mariners. It was because much of this discussion has been about how many mariners are employed, with the consensus being, not many.

No Bug, you are just very selective in what and how you post. Look back a week or so, there have been many replies to your posts about this subject including this one from me:

“Very very few American taxpayers will suffer the loss of that filthy industry. Except for some workers in the pseudo American “headquarters” there are only a handful who depend on them for survival.”

I don’t have time and can’t be bothered to find all the posts (many in response to your own trolls) that state categorically that the cruise industry employs very very few Americans in any capacity. Let me repeat, it is a filthy industry by any environmental, ethical, or social standard. It is a parasite on American shores.

American employment is taking a nasty hit. American employment in the cruise industry was rotten well before this virus thing.

According to US State Dept. there are a significant number of US crews still stuck on Cruise Ships around the world:

Probably not many are Mariners, but US citizens and members of the crew on board cruise ships.

Why are the not more Americans working in the catering and hotel department on cruise ships?
I know that the wages are not exactly high, but that applies to similar jobs on shore in USA.
$13-15/hr. + tips and bonus, free bed and board, free meals and no travel expenses should stack up well against below min. wages in a diner or junk food joint.
Yes, long hours and no days off while on board. Missing family and friends is inherent in any seafaring job.

Maybe this can explain it:

But there are some perks:
