Why Give Billions to Universities?

You have just demonstrated a variation of TDS, Trump Delusional Syndrome. Look at a mirror and see one of the alien poster children for that disease that infects this site.

My vote was anyone but the loonie left that is destroying the USA
As a typical fervent anti trumper you label everyone, the majority of Americans as all having a syndrome.
The Syndrome is to save the USA from the loonie left.

This is rich. Made me chuckle. When those on the right says such things it’s called ignorance, xenophobia, racism & comparisons of stuff Hitler said to immigrants & outside observers. @powerabout & @Jughead , if you want to criticize how evil American deals with Hamas, illegal gang members wife beaters, the death penalty or border security then criticize all you want. But if it has to do with giving $300 billion in grants to the wealthiest, most exclusive private university on the planet then you have no rights to do so according to those on the left.

Notice no one on the left on this forum would ever say such strong words to ombugge? He criticizes & tells America what to do almost every day & not a peep.

Everything is going to be ok. We’re just a little concerned because you’re just getting a little bit shouty is all, and you can’t seem to remember what country you’re living in. Can you name a town?

The corollary of this is that foreigners have the right to tell Americans how to spend our tax dollars. Is that what you are proposing?

Europe, oops thats a continent, France, oops thats a country sorry US education.

Sorry only did one credit at uni
" At Cornell University, students can take a one-credit class in Tree Climbing which will “teach you how to get up into the canopy of any tree, to move around, even to climb from one tree to another without touching the ground.” .

I got funding to do this
Game of Thrones is more than just a great show: studying it is also a way to earn college credit at the University of Virginia. Fortunately, Game of Thrones purists will also get to explore the George R. R. Martin books on which the series is based, comparing and contrasting the worlds created in print and on screen. And for more on Westeros, take a peek Inside the World’s First Game of Thrones-Themed Hotel.

Amost did this but would have to move
If you’re ever wondered whether or not the USS Enterprise would have actually been capable of flight, Santa Clara University might be the school for you. At this California university, students can study the physics that might enable their favorite intergalactic ships to fly. And to discover what sci-fi predictions you can expect to come true, This Is What Life Could Look Like 100 Years From Now.

Perhaps we all need to go here ( unless the CCP students kill us first)
If you’ve ever wanted to know if you would make it out alive in a zombie apocalypse, Michigan State University has the one course that can give you a definitive answer. Better yet, since the class is offered entirely online, you can study in the privacy of your own room, even further reducing your chances of becoming an undead being’s next meal.

By the way, I’m a centrist. Meaning, depending on what site I am on I am called a commie or a fascist on a daily basis.

Which tells me I am exactly where I need to be.

Your not alone being totally disillusioned with todays politics and thats in many countrys.
UK just kicked out a useless gov but got far worse in return and now crying about it.

Thank God!

Yet you allow non-citizens to vote there and have even appointed a non-citizen to the Board of Elections somewhere? You let them vote in their millions. No problem. Look! Over there! Unicorns. See them? Oh, and I’ll propose whatever I want and you’ll have to just take it or leave it.

But I do pay taxes. Lots. I’ve even spent my hard-earned in the USA many times and still no proposals allowed? You may be cutting off a valuable resource, you know.

I’m not blowing my own horn here, but if ‘occupants’ can benefit from my advice they can have it for free. First advice, shut the blinds. Do you need a little helper in that field yourself? I do a remote learning module at competitive rates.

I hope you have the capacity but I never read a word on this forum where you thought critically of Obama, Hillary Clinton, Biden or Harris. A centrist would be critical of all of them as well as those on the right. You never mentioned Bidens mental decline until AFTER the election & most the the left political pundits lead the way. That was something so obvious even children noticed & expressed it. I’m sorry freighterman1, but you are not a centrist. BTW, Trump is a narcissist, former womanizer. Modern day Democrats are warmongers who live in the pockets of the M.I.C. Centrists don’t mind saying such things against both sides.

At one CA college I attended in the 1980s I took a course in movie appreciation. Watched old movies. Talked about them. That was nearly half a century ago and the California university system has lead the world in scientific innovation all that time.

So, if universities have alway had these seemingly worthless courses and the same system is the worldwide leader in developing minds, why would you want to tamper with the system?

Especially since you’ve never visited the system yourself, been a product of the system, or belong to the state that funds the system.

One would think you would be perfectly happy to profit from the system. As you are doing now. Because the device you are reading this on is a direct outgrowth of that system, which has always had those seemingly useless courses.

its because the useless stuff is overtaking the real stuff
Head count doing exactly what shows that as several ex lecturers have pointed out.
50% of headcount not involved in lecturing these days.

I’ve said repeatedly that presidents are guys I hire to run the country for four years. If I think they did a good job, I’ll rehire them for four more. If not, I’ll vote to hire someone else. I don’t get emotionally invested in them. They aren’t part of my identity.

They are just temp workers, and like all workers subject to making mistakes. As long as they try their best and don’t rob from the till I’m generally ok with them. I voted for Gw Bush once. Voted him out the second go around. Move on.

Obama and Biden were centrists at heart. But to people on the far right even Reagan would be a commie.

CJ is a bad worker. I hire skilled officers for a living. I know a crap captain when I see one.

Hillary Clinton? Harris? They were never presidents. Why talk about them?

Honestly, I got accused of TDS today, by people constantly bringing up a 80-year old, 5-foot tall grandmother who was never president and hasn’t been in office for 10 years. It’s an obsession.

I know Jughead has a Sam-and-Diane thing for her, but she’s not worth it.

Do it yourself, friend.

Ombugge is the most prolific poster of real maritime news on the website. His political stuff is only a small part of his output.

Unlike other foreigners here, who do nothing but tell Americans how their country sucks.

Maybe you are the foreigner. Nothing on this site says it’s exclusive for any nationality.

“ The Premier Online Community for Maritime and Offshore Professionals.”

By the way, we are happy to advise many nations including our own. America needs to fix big problems. You need to be told some uncomfortable truths.

Both parties are guilty of giving the military industrial complex anything they want and refuse to look there for fraud. They are bought and paid for, have been for many years. Over a trillion dollars a year in the ‘defense’ budget yet no one peeks under the covers there? Of course Elon has a few billion in contracts there, at least for now.
The university thing is a distraction especially from someone who ran a fraudulent university. The attorney generals of many states brought charges against Trump University in an attempt to recoup some money from their students who were duped by the con. Florida’s attorney general at the time was Pam Bondi and Florida was part of the suit until Trump made a “campaign contribution” towards her campaign. Bondi then dropped the suit on behalf of the Florida victims who got nothing in the settlement. She was rewarded by being made US Attorney General. The guy remembers his partners in fraud. Pete Hegseth the Fox news pundit was kicked out of a veterans organization for misusing funds which coupled with his Fox bona fides made him uniquely suited to be Sec. of Defense. Trump understood Pete because the Trump Foundation admitted to 19 cases of fraud, not allowed to form any more charitable foundations and was forced to pay numerous charities. Chump change for him but still.
Now Trump has turned on Elon and vice versa. Elon was the right’s hero just 2 weeks ago. What a mess.
The last person Trump hired that was truly qualified to do the job they were hired for was Stormy Daniels

True.

But here’s the litmus test:

In a post some weeks ago, after your Australian elections, you said the commies had won. Your words.

So, why aren’t you commenting on this site about how the commies have taken over Australia? Which presumably is a bad thing and therefore worthy of endless invective from you. Because you are an Australian voter and citizen.

Why are you only commenting on the USA, when , as you say, the site is open to all nationalities? Then we could hear you comment on something you actually have firsthand knowledge of. Instead of a report from someone peeking through the bedroom window.
