I am a junior in college considering working in the merchant marine upon graduation. I know next to nothing about the job, the lifestyle, etc… This forum seems to be aimed at those considerably less clueless than I. Can anybody point me in the direction of a forum where I can have my very basic questions answered?

Well I used the search function and wasn’t able to find the answer to this question: it’s my understanding that people in this line of work usually work 6 to 8 months out of the year. Is there anything stopping somebody who wants to earn more from signing on with 2 ships? One for the first half of the year and another for the second half?
