What You Need To Know About The Battle of Portland - bellingcat

July 23 photos from Portland:

So was the third bite of that sandwich as good as the first? The protestors broke into a supposedly locked and gated community. Welcome them to your neighborhood. Our guys in blue ( In my location) gave them space, they instead took that as weakness, and tore up shit. Didn’t happen last go round. The assholes are Bubbas boyfriends now, the well behaved non-violent protestors can go on to protest another day.

Elected officials abdicate responsibility to provide law and order
The local political leaders have failed them.

Portland rioters aren’t just destroying their own city
They are destroying our government’s property

These are riots, not protests—there is nothing peaceful about any of it

The media have claimed over the past three months:

  1. Cuomo was great;
  2. Seattle’s CHOP and Portland were paradisical;
  3. Mass riots were no biggie;
  4. Enormous BLM protests provided no health risk in the midst of a pandemic.
    I can’t imagine why they have a credibility gap.

Crowd of protesters?
They’re trying to burn down a federal courthouse with people inside.
They’re not protesters—they’re violent criminals.

The intolerant, illogical, violent mob is intolerant, illogical, and violent.

This may come as news to many people but Federal Law enforcement existing is not a violation of your rights
Stop attacking their courthouse and it all ends.

Portland’s Mayor was tear gassed, along with other people who tried to breach the federal courthouse grounds.
Forcefully trying to overtake federal property is a crime, and has nothing to do with protesting or peace.
Instigating conflict does not denote victimhood.

People who peacefully protest don’t show up with shields, leaf blowers, frozen water bottles & covered faces in anticipation of a confrontation. They don’t set fire to buildings & destroy public property or align themselves with communism. That’s called #insurrection.

Let’s be perfectly clear about this. Any single person on the streets giving cover to this violent mayhem is themselves a participant in the rioting and destruction. This is not tens of thousands of Americans coming together to have their voices heard and petition the government for better police practices. These people don’t even have any discernible demands; there is literally nothing that authorities could do or concede that would make them stop their wanton destruction.

Many were protesting against police, and they wailed about the need for police the moment they were met with duress. It challenges rationality to see these fogged minds incapable of seeing the problematics of their message.

Americans will vote against socialism and victimhood and for great economic policies protected by law and order.

Media were certainly not showing these pictures of the lack of response by local government a few weeks ago. All peaceful and buttercups for all now? How quickly the worm turns. My niece still can’t get to her job in downtown Portland.

“Between the buoys” Well said sir. I feel safe in my neighborhood, But I don’t venture too far. Some of my son’s classmates are in law enforcement, both men and women. I know these folks quite well, and the stories they tell is disappointing to say the least. Some of the people they try to help, turned on them to follow the “Crowd”. I could never be a cop, but my hat is off to the ones that are. Especially the ones I know and respect that bear the brunt of a few rotten assholes.

We’re well-paid, specialized workers protected by stringent licensing requirements, an extensive protectionist legal structure, a huge union presence, and the fact that almost no one even wants this crazy job; and we’re STILL seemingly just barely holding on in terms of losing jobs, losing wages, shitty working conditions, etc, all the time. Cost of living is nuts, healthcare is nuts, education is nuts. Consumer goods are so cheap even the poor have big screens but the essentials are out of reach for even the middle class growing up now. I don’t know what option people have but be pissed, the right-to-work big business crowd has been tightening the screws since the Reagan era and before and it hasn’t let up any.

There are of course always ways for any one guy to find a loophole in this and get ahead but none of it scales. I quit my shitty job and went to sea but that’s a solution for a few hundred people, not tens of millions. If it looks like a job is gaining any labor power they undercut it as quickly as possible by flooding the market with new grads, like we’ve seen with nurses and programmers in just the last decade or so alone and like we WOULD see in our industry if the masses of academy grades could actually stand sailing for a whole career. You take away anything anyone has to look forward to, and if they have a glimmer of hope you take it away twice as hard, and you can’t just expect them to fall in line and suffer in silence.

My bride was in healthcare, I was in maritime. Worked out ok for us. Agree with some of the subjects you mentioned, it was competitive and not easy. Be good at what you do, you will be fine.

America will vote against death by virus and the reign of anti-science insanity. I’m sure Portland is a mess. Remind me, how many people have died in the protests?

How many innocents have died in all the “Nonviolent” protests? How many have lost their business and livelihood because of the “Peaceful Protests”. If you had a friend that went thru this bullshit you may give them a shoulder. But, perhaps not. The initial message is being lost with the violence and mayhem. Media feeds off of it.

Had a conversation on the phone with my oldest daughter today that brought a chuckle. She spent 3 years in L.A. and the last 10 years in Austin tx (also known as California East). Her, being an avid Bernie supporter brings out some pretty good political pokes between us.

It happened today that she had to take off work for a dental appointment. The office was near one of the “peaceful protests”. It seems one of the “peaceful protesters” jumped on her car and others were circling. She hit the gas, expelled the uninvited “peaceful protester” and almost ran over 2 others. She was PISSED that she lost wages and appointment fees because of this crap. I reminded her that her BMW was 4 years old and she should have donated it to the cause!! (She’s half Colombian and has THE temper) She had no answer when I told her CHE would be disappointed in her…

In 1965 I was a kid living in the south of the USA. There were only 3 TV networks and all were focused on the the disturbances in the south brought on by what were called ‘Negros’ [in polite society] demanding the right to vote and get an equal education to whites. I remember seeing when they crossed the bridge in Selma Alabama and were beaten by Alabama state police and attacked with dogs. I distinctly remember relatives of mine saying that needs to be stopped or they’ll be killing and raping people here, ammunition and gun sales went up. The idea of that scared me too. It was logical in my young mind that if police needed to beat these people they were doing so to protect us, the good people.
Before I retired I was in the Atlanta airport, having returned from Tokyo on a late flight, I was running to try and make my connecting flight so I could get home to Florida when one of those Atlanta airport carts pulled along beside me with 3 police in it and a guy I recognized from TV as being Congressman John Lewis, who had his skull fractured back in 1965 crossing the Pettis bridge in Selma Alabama. He called out to me and asked if I needed a ride. I said sure. When I hopped on I asked if he was John Lewis because he looked like the guy I see on TV and he said he sure was but the important thing is where do you need to be. I told him I needed to be all the way to T terminal but if he would let me off at the escalator I’d try to make it. He wouldn’t hear of it so we went down to the next level where he had another cart waiting and he gave me a ride even though he just needed to go to baggage claim and go home. We chatted a bit. He asked what work I did and he said we don’t do enough for you guys, people forget about what you do. I told him that was nice and I appreciated the thought but since I’m not from Georgia I can’t vote for you. He laughed and said it’s not all about votes. He was a nice man that day to me. May the peace maker who caused ‘good trouble’ when I was a kid rest in peace. I made my flight by the way.

oh Gawd !!! … suddenly I’m ready to go to sea again !!!

See what happens today.

KATU is a local station.

Mayor Wheeler is making it clear he wants the feds gone.

Not leaving entirely, just lurking around the corner.

This looks like a practice run by Trump/Barr for marshal law around November 3rd.

I really hope the feds pull out entirely so we can see how much control the left has over the leftist rioters. If the federal agents leave & the rioters celebrate & calm down it will be a win for the left in the eyes of many moderates. If the federal agents leave & the rioters overrun the building, destroying whatever is in their path it will be a win for the feds & Trump because it would show the rioters only want to destroy & perhaps the feds were right? Now it is getting interesting, not the same old, same old. Watching a US Federal Courthouse in a major American city being sacked by barbarians would be different.

Norwegian flag a symbol of slavery? The building’s owners wisely took it down before peaceful protesters decided to set the building on fire.

Norway shall rise again!

This is not about what is happening in Portland and it’s not going to be. It’s about perceptions about what’s happening.

What’s happening in Portland has got to be complicated, different people and groups with different goals.

Protests aren’t what they look like on TV

Good luck to those trying to spin that. As a person who wasn’t around for the civil rights protests of the 60’s the boring pictures of people holding hands, singing & showing the peace sign doesn’t come to mind when conjuring images from my brain. It’s the firehoses, lynchings & people in handcuffs that comes to mind. I’m sure there were a lot of boring days during the Vietnam War but the image of a burnt naked little girl running down a dirt road pops into my head whenever that conflict is brought up. If the left/media can somehow convince the history books that all the looting, rioting & destruction was because of the unjust murder of George Floyd then they are masterminds & the American public is far dumber than I originally suspected.

Better wait to see how the US elections turn out. Grand Wizard Trump would approve, bestow statehood upon Norway without consulting international law and double the production of Norwegian flags.
On the other hand, President Biden would land a racially diverse LGBTQ rainbow coalition of conflict resolution counselors on your beaches aboard a fleet of recently refurbished Ducks to ask what’s wrong.
According to MSM, Trump will lose the election but refuse to leave so it’s possible that both scenarios could happen at the same time.
