Drop the “liberal” label as the issue is neither liberal nor conservative. Those are just labels used to divide people. It’s like the mask thing during a time of a pandemic. What we should be doing is asking, “What do we all need to do as a nation to make ourselves better and safer?” If the USA in 1940 had the same polarization of the people that exists today the USA at best would be an island surrounded by Nazi Germany and the Japanese.
If this does not stop the USA as a world power will end, if it has not already.
I’ll put my significant other who can shape shift into a rabid junk yard dog at the slightest provocation up against yours anytime. I’ll let her know as soon as she wakes up.
I have to tell you though. Don’t delude yourself into thinking that whoever would win that match would be effective against imbecilic thugs who can’t shoot straight and don’t care if innocent children get killed in the crossfire.
You live in Chicago? If so move, if not what do you care? I lived in the Carolinas or Florida most of my life. Never concerned myself with morons in the big cities killing each other. They’ve been doing so since there were cities.
In the Carolinas we mostly kill family members. In Florida you might get your face eaten by a stranger, molested by an 80 year old or a naked guy might climb on your truck but that is part of Florida’s charm
It strikes me that Florida should have a new theme park called Florida, based on…Florida. Far scarier than any Disney ride.
Shape shifter, LOL, I will save that one for a later “Agreement”. . And yes, agree on knife to a gunfight. My junk yard dog won’t allow them, but coming around a bit due to the madness happening all around. My brothers and sisters are armed to the teeth. She balked at my son having a beautiful Glock. Some day, some day. In the meantime, let the Black Beardog eat.
A friend of mine and I had lunch last week and we were touching on some similar topics. After some thought I told him I really think the NRA should start holding gun safety classes in the our inner cities. He did a double take and thought I was crazy/ I said look there is obviously a demonstrated need. There are already a lot of guns there and many don’t know how to use them properly and can’t hit the broadside of a barn. They need to learn how to shoot straight so there wouldn’t be so much collateral damage.
Do most gun crimes in the USA occur in the inner cities? What part of a city makes it “inner”? I’ve often wondered about that. Is it a geographical term?
Just a pronoun used in a political discussion to describe a group of people that share similar political ideologies. I have a few opinions & beliefs that many would consider “liberal”, no offense to that group intended. When discussing or addressing a group of people who would like a softer police presence & who also would like to reduce the amount of guns available to public by passing more gun control laws I think the pronoun “liberals” is appropriate.
Oh hell no! I wouldn’t live in that hell hole for any amount of money. I live on an island off the coast of mainland NC where people don’t shoot at each other over petty disagreements. People in Chicago can shoot and kill and maim each other all day and all night if that’s what they want. Their civic leaders don’t seem to be bothered by it and it’s a free country.
Abstinence to prevent the spread of STD’ & unplanned pregnancies is the safest but sex ed classes & free condoms is a no-brainer in my book.
I’ve never seen the need for hand guns in the hands of the general population and here ownership is not permitted by law. Our police wear them if the need arises and I wore one on two occasions as a serving naval officer. The police if attending an incident where firearms are being used always attend with rifles.
A rifle or a shotgun has a has a legitimate use for pest control, hunting and euthanising injured stock or an animal for the freezer. The duck shooting season has just finished so the students at our agricultural college have returned their shot guns to storage in the college magazine.
You live in a civilized country. Quit rubbing it in our faces.
Sorry
Do you happen to have a guest house?
And the trend line for violent crime over the last 30 years has been down, not up. The Bureau of Justice Statistics found that the rate of violent crimes per 1,000 Americans age 12 and older plummeted from 80 in 1993 to just 23 in 2018. The country has gotten much, much safer, but, somehow, Americans don’t seem to feel that on a knee-jerk, emotional level.
1993 to 2018. Brilliant. How about so far in 2020?
Interesting reading:
It’s Been ‘Such a Weird Year.’ That’s Also Reflected in Crime Statistics.
In large cities across America, murders are up sharply, while other violent crimes have decreased.
By Jeff Asher and Ben Horwitz. NYT. Updated July 13, 2020
The national numbers for murder and other types of violent crime rarely move in opposite directions.
But this is no ordinary year.
Overall crime is down 5.3 percent in 25 large American cities relative to the same period in 2019, with violent crime down 2 percent.
But murder in these 25 cities is up 16.1 percent in relation to last year. It’s not just a handful of cities driving this change, either. Property crime is down in 18 of the 25 sampled cities, and violent crime is down in 11 of them, but murder is up in 20 of the cities.
The F.B.I. doesn’t supply recent crime statistics, so we collected Uniform Crime Report (U.C.R.) data for these cities (each with over 250,000 people), which reported data at least through the end of May. Crime in the report is divided into violent crime — murder, aggravated assault, rape and robbery — and property crimeposed of theft, auto theft and burglary…
With so many millions of people staying home, not commuting to work, not eating out & doing a lot of their shopping online from the comfort of their living room sofa I would expect crime to be down. The closest mall to my house used to have 1 car break in a day & that was down to zero for over 2 months.
According to the immigration department 250,000 Americans and 49,000 from the UK have made enquires about moving here in the last couple of months.
The previous posts of angry women raised a smile. My daughter had a 25,000 litre water tank delivered to their ten acre property while the house was under construction. The delivery was early in the morning so I could tow it up the top of the hill with my 4-w-d pickup while it could slide on the wet dew. All went well until the truck went off the gravel and got stuck. He had left his trailer blocking about 6 angled parking places opposite the school thinking he would be long gone before the school mums arrived. By the time I had returned home about 3 miles and got the tractor things had changed. The truck driver looked shell shocked after his encounter with a Rottweiler with lipstick, aka the school secretary. Son in law and I, like cowards we were, kept Well to the rear.
You were wise to stay to the rear.
