What Maritime Academy is the most like a military school?

I take back what I said earlier… I’m aghast after learning what the new commandant is dealing with, and would say that TMA is nowhere near being in the running for the title of “most military” at this time.

If that’s what the OP is looking for, then I’d suggest one of the other Academies.

I’m shocked that it went anti military too. I would have thought that because Texas is with an actual military school (Texas A&M is a Sr Military Academy were the cadets attend classes with civilians but live separate) that it would be the toughest. I understood that 10 years ago it was tough.

What have you learned? What’s the new commandant having to deal with?

Other than KP, I have only visited the campuses of Mass and Texas. At least in the 90s, Texas was VERY laid back. Mass, not so much.

KP , first going in is a mini boot camp for a bit. Basically a weeding out process. The first year as a plebe continues that process. Get past that first year, it’s just another college, but higher academic challenges while wearing khakies. And sea year of course.

Well, I don’t know if second and third class years at KP are really like “just another college”. . . .granted it is easier than Plebe year. . . I didn’t find KP to be very casual until after license. Those last couple of months were pretty easy, for me, anyway. I somehow managed to pass all of the tough classes that a lot of my classmates had to re-take that last quarter. Once you passed license, you could come and go as you pleased, as long as you attended classes and morning muster. . . of course even in my third and second class years, I came and went. pretty much as I pleased but never go caught. . . I had a system. . .

4th Class year was you vs. the upperclass and the system…

3rd Class through 1st Class years were you vs. the system with a large support network made up entirely of tight bonds and shared experience.

That was the good thing, you saw the end of the tunnel way before you got there. I call those cats graduates. And quite smart
