Developing West Pacific Tropical Cyclone

Tropical Depression 20W has developed over the western North Pacific (11.2N 148.6E) with max winds of 25 knots and is moving WNW 9 knots. This depression is in a very favorable environment so rapid deepening into a typhoon is likely, possibly reaching super typhoon strength in 3-4 days as it moves northwestward.





Update Typhoon Mindulle over the western North Pacific southwest of Iwo To and is currently packing winds to 90 knots and significant wave heights to 42 feet (almost 13 meters) as it moves slowly northwest. The forecast is for a slow turn towards the north over the next 2 days then accelerating northeastward. Conditions favor further deepening during the next 2 days then gradual weakening is likely.

Update -The center of Typhoon Mindulle was located near 24.2N 135.4E (324 nm west of Iwo To) moving north at 8 knots with max winds of 115 knots and max significant wave height of about 45 feet (about 13.5 meters). Mindulle is forecast to accelerate northeastward passing east of Japan over the next 24-48 hours while gradually weakening.
