Serious question: Do the other schools have offices for their alumni associations? It’s kinda odd to me that KP’s alumni group would be shown the door. I can’t imagine the office space is needed by some other entity. I went to a state university (non-maritime) and our alumni association has offices on-campus.
Among other problems and per the letters cited above, (1) other alumni organizations do not operate on the grounds of their colleges and universities rent-free; and (2) the KP Alumni Association and Foundation (AAF) was profiting from using the Academy name on merchandise. Improprieties seem to have been in place for some time. It seems to me that DOT, MARAD and the Superintendent have shown much patience. The AAF leadership foolishly and childishly tried to get pushy. The captain of the ship (DOT et al.) finally said, “Enough. Go away. That’s an order.”
A federal district court today ruled against the KP AAF’s petition to stay on campus. This is at least the second lawsuit-of-questionable-merit the AAF has brought in a year. These lawsuits happen on the dime of alumni who donate. They also waste taxpayer funded court resources.
Too much money is involved for the AAF leadership to stay the same. Unfortunately I think a solution will not be easy: The alumni who are active as supporters of KP tend to be those who are least qualified to head a multi-million dollar non-profit corporation such as KP’s AAF.

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY…ISN’T IT? This just so sweet! The USMMAAF is pocketing hansomly from the all stoopid alums who think their money is going to the Academy and the Admin is calling them on their graft! So now all Helis needs to do is drop a dime to the IRS to have the Foundation’s books audited. The sharks are in a feeding frenzy and devouring each other! For too many decades there has been simply staggering levels of corruption going on there at that school and maybe Helis is actually starting to drain the swamp! I am beginning to rethink the man’s fortitude to root out and exterminate the cockroaches that have been feasting there in Great Neck for decades upon decades. Maybe he is actually on the right track here…he frogmarched the USMMAAF’s best buddy E.York Wallischeck out the gate on day one now he is giving the scam artists and strong arm men in the USMMAAF an eviction. I think I might have been wrong about the man!
Your bro out of Deer Lodge these daze to help you out there on your spread?
Yes, Little Brother is with me. When I mentioned in a thread, oh, a few years ago, that he got out of the Hoosegow I didn’t clarify it. Little Brother was employed with putting folks behind bars. He has stories. His lovely Lady, whom I love dearly, will be joining us tomorrow evening. Cripes, my family is scattered across our Nation, I’m getting phone calls from Texas, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, New York State, and Ohio. We are close.
btw, I don’t believe it for one minute you are cranky…how can one be cranky when they have Turkey & ice in a mason jar and a Partagas to light up the night?
Looked at your photos and the one of you sitting on the horse…for Christ’s sake there chief…we could be brothers ourselves just separated by a few extra decades is all!
YUP old man, I think that by now I do!

A few extra decades ye say, shit I don’t have much sand left to make another decade. Pleased we look like bros though.
I hope your knee ends up healed soon.
Thanks, it will. Another visit to the Doc in the morning will set the stage for what needs to be done. Phuck-it, anyway. I’m pissed it fucked-up my fishing on the one good weather day we had in weeks. Montana is, well, Montana ~
If this just doesn’t sum up KP with simple perfection!
USMMA Custom Golf Bag
Many of you know that it’s been a decade long dream of mine to offer Kings Pointers the “Golf Bag” they deserve. Nearly every single institution of higher learning has one except for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The reasons stem from the lack of a true online store, the small alumni base and someone to actually pull it all together. We have toyed with a couple of bags in the past, but none have delivered the punch as much as this one.
With the assistance of several Kings Pointers, we came up with a custom USMMA Callaway Golf Bag that we feel delivers the best display of all that is Kings Point. This ORG 14S CART BAG made by Callaway proudly displays the USMMA logos on the Blue & Gray colors that we have all grown to love. The strap features USMMA, matching similar designs from other Service Academies. The sides of the bag prominently feature “United States MERCHANT MARINE Academy” and “KINGS POINT.” There is no doubt that anyone standing next to this bag will take notice.
In order for this bag to be made, we must commit to 200 orders. This means that 200 bags must be “reserved” so we know there is ample interest. Once the interest is met, we will reach out to those who have reserved a bag for payment. Once the funds are collected, the bags will be put into production. It will take 90-120 days for production. Unfortunately, we cannot purchase the bags ahead of time without knowing we will sell them all.
To Reserve USMMA Custom Golf Bag
Price: $180 (includes $50 donation to the Blue & Gray Golf Classics benefiting USMMA Athletics)
To reserve a bag, CLICK HERE to reserve a bag for Pre-Sale.
No purchase required at this time.
If you are interested in owning this bag, we encourage you to reach out to other Kings Pointers to help us reach our 200 order minimum.
If you have any questions, please contact me. Thanks so much for your patience in this project!!

Your USMMA Alumni Association and Foundation hard at work making KP the “Jewel” of the Federal Service Academies!
Your USMMA Alumni Association and Foundation hard at work making KP the “Jewel” of the Federal Service Academies!
Do they sell a cheap tackle box? Mine is a little beat-up. Oh Lord, wont you buy me a USMMA Callaway Golf Bag ~
be careful what you ask the Lord to give to you… that is, if you want to live to be able to enjoy it…
I read where there are some folks who really want to out in a blaze of fire. Me, I rather be sitting on my back porch, sipping my Makers and … and … oh well,
About yesterday’s MRI, I have a meniscus tear in the RED ZONE. Well it turns out the red zone is a “moderate tear.” Why call it red zone for cripes sake? There is a white zone too, that’s the show stopper. Must be very careful I was told, not engage with riding my horse up a mountain trail this time of year when bears are hungry and the mountain lions are always around. I was told should my horse catch the scent I could be tossed, should that happen I might as well say good night Irene. OK, I will oblige.and don’t call me Irene.
After a month of careful living another MRI will be done, a final evaluation will be made.
I was given pain pills but they make me more silly than normal. Advil seems to handle the situation quite nicely.
So, how’s your day?
Glad to hear they’re putting humpty-dumpty back together again, Irene. Your wit and comments have been missed this last week or so. More silly than usual? Is that possible? I can’t wait to read what you have to say about ATB’s, short sea shipping, Forbes magazine, the USMMA, and the guv’ment (some of the things we’ve been discussing in your absence) while you’re on oxycodone or vicodin! Yee-haw!

It’s sounds like a good idea to stay off of the Mountain. A month will fly by and hopefully you will be good to go I am . In the past I blew off the Doctors instructions and started doing things way too fast, which I am now paying for. As the saying goes, If I had known that I was going to live so long I would have taken so much better care of myself.
Jim is a fishing buddy my age who has a heart condition. His Doc ordered him never to fish alone, always have someone reliable with you. So, who should I see drive through my ranch gate at break neck speed but Jim. He pulled up to the back porch steps, got out, walked up to porch table, sat down without uttering a word. I didn’t proffer a peep either, directly he looked me in the eye, with no expression on his face, and said "What a fine mess you’ve gotten us into, Ollie."
I about shat me pants laughing so hard.
We broke out the whiskey jug.
Thanks Friends for all your kind words but all things considered Irene rather be fishing.
ps…you’ve got a great friend there (especially if he’s the one who brung the whiskey)!
Oh he did he did, and a gentlemen of the highest order he certainly is, he left it with me when he drove off.
His wife, you understand, puts a time limit when he visited with me. I have no idea why.
