45 pages at 19 people per page is close to 1000 QAs.
1000 QAs for 170 ships, 30 drill rigs, 300 OSVs, sounds like enough.
Very few guys on 5000 tugs are becoming QAs because 95% of tugs are exempt from STCW and QAs are not needed.
Rescind the extension!
The QA course should be a free online course. The USCG could contract out the provision of the course to one of the taxpayer funded academies, or one of the union schools.
You donât need the course. You can apply based on experience and a letter and be granted a QA - thatâs how I got mine. Itâs not a guarantee, which the course is, but if you donât want to take the course, you donât have to.
The MITAGS QA online Class is $175 ( or was in 2016 when I got my QA) A few hours to do that class and get the USCG QA application done. I had my QA about 6 weeks after I submitted for it. I considered the $175 a cheap price to pay to be able to condcut the assessments with my OSs and ABs that were serious about upgrading. Of course the USCG has continued to extend the deadline since thenâŚ
I was talking in hyperbole, Iâm will aware that there are QAs but according the the USCG there arenât any, otherwise they wouldnât keep extending the deadline.
Easy, you simply stop extending the deadline.
At this point everyone that can be either doesnât want to be a QA and do assessments or theyâre being lazy about the course because the USCG just keeps extending the deadline.
Heard it was offered at a few hours each night to people attending the school for other classes, usually when there is enough interest to justify itâŚon an ad hoc basis.
Just went through the process of getting a QA. Was a streamlined process for the most part. Finding a QA or Train the Trainer course on my time home was the most difficult part.

NMCCOURSES@uscg.mil is the email to the NMCâs department that handles Qualified Assessor applications. All information for applying for a QA rating is on the NMCâs website, including what to submit, and where to send it. I havenât tried calling, but I have traded emails with the one I just gave and they answer fairly promptly ( a day or two on average). Thereâs even a checklist for QA submissions.
