hello all!
yesterday i became aware of the UOS sale to what is a union company. i had a few questions if someone could help! Being that im a relative new hire with the company and my first trip out!
-
this company hires per voyage, does that mean i still have a spot to go back to after shore time or have to reapply?
-
would i be required to join the union or be “drafted” in?
-
anybody know how this company is, with thier relations with thier mariners?
-
should i get ready to go back to knocking on doors?

The final breakup of Gulf Coast Transit >TECO Ocean Shipping > United Ocean Shipping has been completed.

Most union companies have a contract that with outline whether they will have permanent assignments on a vessel.

As far as I know, they hire SIU crew members, again depends on how the contract will be written

I met a couple guys in Tampa from the Sulfur Enterprise which is run by International Ship. they seemed to like working there.

Best suggestion is to call in and see what is going on. From what I read from the announcement, it will be run as a separate entity under International Ship, so it really is anyone’s guess. I’ll try to find out more as my friend is Chief Mate on the ITB Barbara Kessel and is at sea right now.
