United State Merchant Marine Academy Two Quick Questions

I am looking to join USMMA I have been researching it but there a couple thing haven’t been able to find the answer for since there website is super out dated. First one is can you transfer to USMMA as in community college to academy and would it be harder to get admission doing that? On the website I was reading that you have to join the reserve in any of the U.S Armed Forces but I read some where else that is only the navy reserves which one is true?

You must either apply for a commission in any branch of the armed forces or for a reserve commission in the US Navy. I’m not sure if you are allowed to go into any other branch reserves and still meet the commitment.

You can transfer, but don’t expect to shorten your stay at the Academy. It is a four year (minimum) program. As far as the commission, the Academy is primarily a NROTC school and acceptance of a Navy Reserve commission is required upon graduation if not accepted active duty in other branches. Or so I understand. It has been a few years.

Do you think transferring will ruin any admission chances of going there?

Not at all. Might even help. Just understand that you will have to start over. . . .
