Understanding China

Chinese shipyards have solidified their dominance in the construction of containerships, commanding an impressive 68.5% of the global boxship orderbook capacity, according to Alphaliner.

When will we realize the cheap goods aren’t worth cozying up with the likes of a country like this? Keep in mind, this is how they treat their own citizens, how much more when they’re in a position of power over others…

Yes keeping people in detention is bad.
Imaging what can be done against people in detention without trial if a country can hold power over people from other countries:

Foreign terrorists are equivalent to domestic political opponents… Got it… Oh, and your butwhatabout is showing

I answered to this question with an example of what can happen.
Who is a terrorist is decided in a court of law.
“One person’s terrorist is another person’s freedom fighter”.

I think it is bad to lock up people for political reasons, or for extensive times without proper trial, no matter who do so, or with whatever excuse it is done.

no, governments put that flag on you way before they catch you

That doesn’t make you a “terrorist”. Only a Court of Law can convict somebody of terrorism. Until such time you are considered to be an accused and to be considered as innocent in accordance with English Common Law.
Like I said; One man’s “terrorist” is another man’s “freedom fighter” and v.v.

No nation has a right to hold anybody in indefinite detention without trial according to UN Charter, International law, Treaties and commonly accepted norms.

If you suspect that somebody has committed terrorism, put them before a the International Criminal Court, or at least an independent court of law in the country where the suspect is held.

here’s a few even China agrees on

Organizations aren’t “a terrorist” and being on “a list” isn’t a conviction.
Only a person (or persons) convicted of terrorism is “a terrorist” by the law.
This apply in China as much as in any other country.

That Governments and public opinion call a group (or a person) “terrorist” doesn’t prove that they are. Others may call them “freedom fighters”.
There are numerous examples of this, both in history (Resistance fighters in occupied Europe were “terrorists” to the Germans, “Freedom Fighters” to the Allies and “Heroes” after WWII) and in present days.

Well. Could be true if there were no hegemons who does not give a hoot about court rulings if You examine link above.

My Gov was put between a devil and a deep blue see as it had to decide or otherwise choose between two evils , meaning :
To arrest BIBI thus complying with the court ruling or please Pumpkin man.

Needless to say they ridiculed themselves proving the court rulings are a worthless mumbo jumbo.

A bit like Norway giving aid to the Tamil tigers in Sri Lanka, while the rest of the world said they are funding terrorism
Not sure how to get China into that conversation

Are you referring to the Norwegian attempt at mediating between the Tamil Tigers and the Sri Lankan Government?:
Mediating between tigers and lions: Norwegian peace diplomacy in Sri Lanka’s civil war

Or the more recent Norwegian contribution towards integration of former Tamil Tiger fighter in the Sri Lankan society?:

no the decades before that

https://mfa.gov.lk/en/norway-main-venue-for-ltte-terror-revival/

My Sri Lankan friends could never understand why Norway was involved for years helping the Tamil tigers, and thats from Tamils

How was it explained in Norway?

I guess hard to explain why Pakistan was helping Mugabe in Zimbabwe for years before he took over too.

China now putting a finger in everyones pie, spoils of war without fighting?

Are you sure your Sri Lankan friends are not Sinhalese (74%) or Muslim Tamils (7%)?
PS> Norway’s involvement in Sri Lanka was much before 2014 (1988-2008)
This is getting far from “Understanding China”. If you want to debate Sri Lanka or Zimbabwe we could start another thread.

That is what “great powers” do and has always done. Why should China be an exception?
