Of note for the shipping industry is the US decision to pull out of the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combatting Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (RECAAP), as well as the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and UN Oceans, an inter-agency coordination mechanism on ocean and coastal issues within the United Nations system..
Trump warned that his review of further findings of the secretary of state remains ongoing, suggesting other bodies could face similar treatment.
Seafarers of all nationalities, sailing on vessels under any flag in all waters, may now be even more exposed to piracy and attack.
Thanks heaven not every nation withdraw from RECAAP, or turn into privateers on the high seas.
PS: Is it going to feel lonely there in your splendid isolation?

The US Energy Department signalled yesterday it will begin selectively removing sanctions to allow Venezuelan oil to be shipped and sold into global markets. In a policy outline published on Wednesday, the department said the Trump administration...

Maritime analytics platform Kpler said any drawdown of Venezuelan stocks will be slow under US control, but longer term the implications are clear: roughly 675,000 barrels per day currently shipped on shadow vessels would migrate back to the commercial fleet, boosting aframax and suezmax demand while sharply worsening prospects for the shadow VLCC segment.
A second tanker, the 2004-built 320,000 dwt M Sophia, was seized in the Caribbean. US Southern Command said the VLCC was stateless, sanctioned and part of the shadow fleet, and is now being escorted to the US.

Thx.Have just finished reading the whole thread noting that valid and reasonable arguments/reasoning of Dr Bugge about unilateral claims of a bully hegemon realizing Monroe doctrine version. 5.0 = we own the world , were interpreted by local Patriots as offensive, hostile bulling. Surely an American point of view is different then Norvegian or Chinese on that matter.
Interesting that you are allowed to bully and use offensive terms and are protected, yet anyone else who calls you out gets censored…

Will this stop the “Supreme Leader”, or even slow him down?:
“Where will this go next? Will the President deploy our troops to protect Iranian protesters? To enforce the fragile ceasefire in Gaza? To battle terrorists in Nigeria? To seize Greenland or the Panama Canal? To suppress Americans peacefully assembling to protest his policies? Trump has threatened to do all this and more and sees no need to seek legal authorization from people’s elected legislature before putting servicemembers at risk,” Kaine said in a statement on Jan. 3.
From WaPo just now:
Trump reacted angrily to the vote, attacking the five GOP lawmakers by name in a social media post and saying they “should never be elected to office again.” Thursday’s action, the president said, “hampers American Self Defense and National Security” by threatening to limit his authority.
Trump has said that no further attacks on Venezuela are imminent but that they may become necessary if the country’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, does not acquiesce to U.S. demands for access to Venezuela’s vast oil reserves. Trump has declined to rule out putting U.S. troops on the ground inside the country “as it pertains to oil,” and he has threatened action against Mexico, Cuba and Colombia in the aftermath of Saturday’s raid.
