U.S. Coast Guard’s Newest Icebreaker ‘Storis’ Arrives in Seattle, Prepares for First Arctic Patrol

I recall seeing somewhere that the Storis crew was both CG and civilian but this article doesn’t mention that.

How does that voyage take six weeks?

Okay, around 12 kts.

Edit: 5.4 kt - I knew I should’ve done it the old-fashioned way.

From here, June 4th:

USCGC Storis departs on maiden voyage

“The vessel is manned with a hybrid crew consisting of military cuttermen and civilian mariners.”

Is that something new, or has that been going on for years?

It’s new AFAIK:

From Chuck Hill’s CG Blog:

“The vessel is manned with a hybrid crew consisting of military cuttermen and civilian mariners.” I don’t know if the Coast Guard has ever done this, but this seems to similar to the way the Navy mans their Expeditionary Sea Base (ESB) ships. Will Storis normally be manned this way?

Told You once the old fashined sounding line and sounding tables is the best tool to determine very acurately the volume in the tanks.

However i will not decline the offer/assistance of a good program on my… you name it , that has all the table values in it and requires only as input : sounding value, trim, list for H2O. Some here may add what else is required for HFO ?? :winking_face_with_tongue:
